My grandma died a few days ago. She was born on the island of Rhodes, her parents were Italian. Then she left the island to live in Naples in Italy. She always told me how beautiful Greece and its culture are. She taught me to cook many Greek dishes and took me to visit her island several times. This was the song she used to sing me a lullaby, I will remember it forever listening to it. Thank you, Nonna Alba. ❤️

"Never on Sunday", also known by its original Greek title "Ta Pediá tou Pireá" ("Τα Παιδιά του Πειραιά", The Children of Piraeus), is a popular song written by Manos Hatzidakis[1] and first sung by Melina Mercouri in the film of same name, directed by Jules Dassin and starring Mercouri.[1] The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1960, a first for a foreign-language picture.[3] The film score to the movie was first released on 1 October 1960 by United Artists Records.[2] The song has since been recorded by numerous artists, and has gained various degrees of success throughout the world. So the original version is the Greek. Thanks from Greece for your comment

Mine too!! That is how I got confirmation of my Greek heritage ( I later took 3 DNA tests which proved right) My mom, turns out silenced my grandmother and instead told me that I'm half Italian and Turkish. My mom was born in Italy but is actually Greek. My grandmother still expressed our Greek heritage in ways such as singing this song and hanging blue and white Christmas lights. My mom must have done this to keep my nationalistic turkish dad happy.... I can't think otherwise why she would hide my Greek heritage 🇬🇷❤

An awesome demonstrantion of greatness from Greece! You know, I live in this country for over 5 years and I can't speak their language, but I love it so much! :,D

So evocative of Greece. I saw this film over 50 years ago, and it’s as though it was yesterday! Brilliant song and film. When I hear it I always want to return to the Greek islands! One day, hopefully ...

I love music from the debts of the heart, as to things that are special, to the singer... she let her whole heart show-- and WE are touched, by her, forever... thank you, melina...
