Melina's HORRIFYING connection to the Night of the Black Knives | Elden Ring Lore Theory

Considering all of the Black Knives were ladies, this just reinforces the fact that Marika is Melina's mother and that she's also Numen. Now, how exactly Melina died, we can't say for sure. But the only time she has a physical from is underneath the Erdtree in Leyndell, and at the Mountaintop. As for her eye, I'm starting to think that "Gloam Eye Queen" is more of a title for anyone wielding the actual eye. Marika's rival had it, Maliketh has it, and then we have it. But if we chose Frenzy and relinquish ourselves of the Runes and Ring, Melina has it, and I think for the 2nd time. Your theory that Melina might have been the sacrifice isn't impossible, but the exact circumstances of her death might be something we never get to find out.

That's a cool idea that the "Gloam Eyed Queen" could be for anyone wielding the eye. During the Frenzy ending, she has the eye and vows to deliver us Destined Death. Not too far off from the Gloam eyed queen lol. But I do think Marika was definitely Melina's mother, and that Melina wasn't THE Gloam Eyed queen that Maliketh defeated to have the rune of death sealed away.

​@Brinkalski I still think that Marika could have originally been the gloam eyed queen before she gained grace. I think that Maliketh was meant to create or maintain a binding of Marika to the greater will. A part of the rune of death may have been chipped off during their fight and she sealed it secretly within Melina at the time of forging the golden order - and giving the blasphemous claw shard to Ranni for her plot

This makes so much sense, nice catch and I will share this finding with many others! I never bought into any of the munbo-jumbo theory that Melina was for sure the Gloam Eye Queen. Milicent's questline mirrored so many traits of Melina that most people just seem to ignore. Recently the DLC showed how Messmer's seal in his eye socket mirrored Melina's sealed eye so much in the chaos ending. Also since everything related to the Godskins and their queen was represented by snake or serpent, Melina did not have any association with snake-like. It makes more sense to me that the queen was defeated before the start of the Golden Order as depicted by Marika drawing the runes from the snake in the DLC trailer, as Enia tells us that the rune of death was plucked from the Golden Order upon its creation.

True I see similarities between Millicent and Melina and Melina has no connection to Snakes but I like to say that Melina and Messmer are the Children of Radagon and the Gloam-eyed Queen. The Statues we see of Marika holding a Baby, I believe that Baby is Melina. The Identity of Messmer and Melina’s Real Mother was always kept secret because Marika defeated her and raised those Children. That is the Real Reason why Messmer and Melina see Marika as her Mother. When we go deeper Melina was send on a journey for her Mother to burn the Erdtree and unleashing Destined Death. Is that not what her REAL Mother the Gloam-eyed Queen would have wanted.😉 That is the seduction

I like to think Melina was originally helping Knight Bernahl because it says his maiden burned the erdtree prior. Knight Bernahl drops the Blasphemous Claw and he has access to FA. We know Knight Bernahl sides with Rykard and he was directly involved in Ranni's plan. I know people like to think Torrent was Miqulla's original owner but since it was never mentioned ingame, I still like to think Ranni was teamed up with Melina, torrent's real previous owner. Ranni wanted to rid the world of the GW and Melina just wanted to save her mom, Marika.

But it can be interpreted possibly as Destined Death being *taken out* of Melina via her eye to seal it away, as well as Destined Death being taken out of the Elden Ring and *placed inside* Melina to seal it away. Either way, it's a great connection you've made.

Think you’re onto something specific. In the same way Marika sealed the serpent inside messmer, she sealed DD inside Melina, making her the GEQ. But when she couldn’t be contained, she was defeated by Maliketh and her eye (DD) was plucked out and DD sealed in his sword. Not sure that makes her a conspirator in the Night of BK, but it makes sense in the game’s logic. AND knowing Melina couldn’t be contained, it would explain why Marika sealed away Messmer and his tree burning flame.

vs 1.0 give us some info into this.. the gloam eyed queen in vs 1.0 is referred to as the queen in black which lines up with melina. but also the beast eye is called malikeths eye or is outright stated to be his eye in 1.0 .. i don't think these were changed because the lore changed but that they were changed because of trying to keep things more mysterious than just outright telling us who they are.. I agree that Melina is the new house of the rune of death or was the house of the rune of death.. just line base 1.0 tells us outright that st trina is miquella, I believe these details are changed to make them more mysterious.. if you look at base 1.0 now that shadow of the erd tree is out it makes a big difference. also a note that the great tree does not exist and is a translation error that hasn't been fixed *my guess on this one is that miyazaki loves our scrambling to figure things out.. he does watch lore videos* we do have confirmation from the Japanese translation that when the game says Great Tree in english its actually saying Great Roots in japanese and is an easily misunderstood translation if you're not familiar with old Kanji .. another translation error is Shaman when used for shaman village when we americans are reading shaman thinking more of english shaman when it's meaning more Shrine maiden as in a female who is spiritual and must keep themselves spiritually clean with a lot of other details changes how shaman village is viewed. instead of being a place of women who are practicing some witch craft ish they are actually just women who were more spiritually inclined.. which to me also changes the view on the village being solely women as well.. kind of like not that these women are their own species or their own tribe but more that they are specially talented women from across the lands that have been gathered into one village because of their gifts with the spiritual aspect of life, to me it changed from this is a tribe of women who are born only women and no men and they are semi hippie witches, into these are women who can see ghosts or talk to god directly with response that are gathered into one village to keep them safe from the rest of the world really.. i see it now as people bringing their gifted daughters to this village to be looked after and protected maybe in hiding while the hornsent are out searching for and slaughtering these women who can talk to the dead.... also another translation error in the english version is when it says Jar Saints.. the english text says that they were being elevated to sainthood but this is wrong.. these shaman or spiritually inclined where stuffed into jars with prisoners in order to help the prisoners change their ways from bad to good.. saint in the sort of phrase of i'll be a saint meaning i'll be good rather than i'll actually become a saint of god.. they were stuffing the women who could talk to the dead into jars with those of prisoners they wished would change their ways and become good citizens of the time and repent as criminals to become better than they were.. personally I think that when Marika shattered the elden ring she gave each of her children a great rune.. I believe that she gave Melina the rune of death and that she was the gloam eyed queen and when Maliketh defeats her and takes the rune that's when Ranni swoops in and steals a fragment or Ranni assisted Maliketh and was easily able to steal a fragment at the time to embed in the blades. I believe Melina is given this task of being the Gloam Eyed Queen by Marika herself as when Marika basically says to her kids "hey go make yourself into something and if you don't you'll be nothing more than a sacrifice" she gives Melina the task of killing the children who didn't make anything of themselves. I think Marika was scared of Messmer because she couldn't control him but she could easily sway her daughter Melina and Melina took the job of being the Gloam Eyed Queen aka the queen in black from her mother. Yes i think Marika was the original Gloam Eyed Queen but that when she removed the rune of death because she was starting Radagons order she gives that Rune and The Title of Gloam Eyed Queen to her daughter .. we have to remember that re rune of death was only removed for the Golden Order or only for Radagons order and that it existed intact for both Placidusaxs rule and for Godfreys rule.. (if Marika is Placidusaxs god.. which at first I thought was the case being that it is a cycle.. but the statue of the child with the 3 wolves actually now makes me think that Placidusax was supposed to be Miquellas Lord while Radahn was his Consort.. because we didn't meet Miquellas Lord only his Consort.. and I don't think it was supposed to be Miquella as he is at the end of the game but rather Trina ascended to godhood but Miquella abandoned Trina hense Placidusax says his god abandoned him... Miquella did abandon his fate as Trina.. My thoughts are that Marika and Radagon were trying to ascend Miquella as St Trina to godhood and have Godwyn as her consort and Placidusax as her Lord but when Godwyn dies and Miquella cannot bring his soul back that's when he abandons his plans entirely to be the god Trina and discards her abandoning his Lord and choosing a replacement consort. I think when Marika shatters the Elden Ring it literally shatters all aspects of the world including time and death and life and birth and rebirth and this shattering technically happens after she separated out all the runes to give them to her kids .. I think there was a different reason for this that we are told as well.. Miquellas rune is that of control which I believe was the real reason why she broke down the Elden Ring into Great Runes is so that when Miquella took godhood that he would have that controlling aspect that she had, which is why when she gives the rune to him we hear that she has followers who are starting to lose faith aka Marikas control on them is starting to fade and as that happens Miquella is gathering more and more devout followers.. Which i think is entirely planed by Marika without Radagon knowing any of it.. I think that line about the followers faith faltering is actually said by radagon and marika knows exactly why, because she is planning her own death and planning to have Miquella as St Trina take over as acting god.. I think Marika hated Radagon being in control... I also think that's why the line about Placidusax being First Elden Lord didn't make sense..which is just theory number one.. theory number 2 is basically the same but Ranni instead of Miquella and that Placidusax could be Ranni's forced Lord if she was to remain tied to her 2 fingers and was forced to "acquiesce" and maybe that's why she couldn't agree to what she was forced into with the golden order being forced to be a god and the dragon be your lord while your half brother godwyn is your consort.. but off topic..or she could have been trying to do both actually.. Radagon may have been trying to ascend Miquella while Marika did Ranni or vice versa and it was a competition to see which child would ascend) it's plausible that Marika ordered Melina to kill Godwyn in order to save the Golden Tree aka the Erd Tree. my original thought on this was that Godwyn the Golden quite literally has a golden soul and possibly was the last and after his birth they had less and less gold and that Marika was planning to kill him and put his golden soul back into the Erd Tree to save it and those who would follow .. the line spoken in deep root depths about Godwyn being a Martyr for Destined Death has rubbed me the wrong way and the fact that Godwyn took down dragons how did the Black Knife Assassins even kill him unless he didn't resist.. because if he did I'm sure he would have won.. But to me he didn't even fight back or they wouldn't have succeeded in my opinion.. Love the video. sorry for my theory rant....

Great rant actually... it pieced together a lot of theories I've heard and made events and motives fall into place a bit easier. One thing you mentioned about the 'spiritualy inclined' reminded me of Roderika and her gift of communing with spirits and whether she may have been one of these 'shaman people' that got sent away perhaps. Interestingly, when we first find her outside of stormveil castle, she has some strange lines about being too scared to be grafted to the spider... like it's something that was expected of her?? After all, her flesh would 'meld harmoniously with others' would it not? I might be reading too far into it though.

@@TheSSunter no I think you are on the right track. they said that Roderika is a spirit tuner like the Queen herself. so I do think that means she is also one of these Shaman Women and was possibly fleeing the shadow lands herself as we never really find where Roderika comes from.

Melina was a phantom assassin, not a black knife assassin. She wasn't sacrificed to create a rune. She sacrificed herself to kill Godwyn and burn the Erdtree. That's why the assassins were found. That's why Alecto and Tiche got caught. That's why black knives are scattered throughout the land, without a purpose. It wasn't part of the plan. She did it with no prior warning. That's why she is burned and bodiless.

I think Melina really try to free her twin brother Messmer, and I think thats why she is helping us burn the tree. I just think there is some connection there, I think she also was prisoned within the capital at the time Messmer where banished to the Shadowrealm, and that she somehow is angry with Marika.
