I think he still has it It's his own power manifesting so if he did it again he would have true magic back but he doesn't want it because he's still scared if he hurt someone with his power Isn't his true magic form the power it's called "destroyer" because it can destroy anything it comes contact with

I agree the dk possession was last minute as he didn’t expect to have king beat mael. I actually think that that arc was originally supposed to culminate in mael vs meliodas as that was the fight being set up And having the dk just trying to possess a new body undercut all of his nuance and intrigue and made him seem a lot weaker. Like the dk before this twist/retcon felt like an interesting twisted father figure and then after this reveal was just a generic bad guy. Like before it felt like he actually cared about the demon realm and his sons. And that could’ve tied in with how kingship is being explored in 44 knights and a kings duty

Yeah, Mael feels like he was meant to be the final villain. And Yeah, he went from a mysterious twisted father to just an evil guy. RIGHT! That would have been a great way to tie back kingship!

I agree the true magic reveal was bad Mind you the concept of meliodas having a true magic ability and full counter being a learned spell is actually a good premise that was hinted at especially when you consider that nakaba likely knew estrossa wasn’t Mel’s brother the whole time. The problem is this shouldn’t have just been a stronger then dk instant win card but rather an interesting an dangerous ability that meliodas had to be careful about using but gave him an advantage. Especially considering the dk was beaten with a combo move so there was no point in giving Mel a stronger then dk form

The reason why nakaba knowing estrossa wasn’t Mel’s brother is relevant is because it shows that nakaba was aware that fc wasn’t an innate ability for a while. Personally I think nakaba was just creatively tapped by that point in the series and couldn’t think of a cool magic ability for Mel so he just gave him dk level power as his ability

Yeah. I enjoyed SDS, but it started to lose me by the end of it when the Demon King kept getting new forms every few chapters. Felt like Nakama came up some new forms and decided he wanted to use all of them instead of limiting himself to 1 or 2 so he just threw them in. Not to mention when you have Escanor going toe to toe against the Demon King by himself. Like if Sun, is that powerful then why not make all the Archangels have the Sun ability. Power scaling and more was just wack at this point. Just look at how they just make humans so important because of Chaos right at the end for no reason. I fed like Nakama really just wasn’t sure if he wanted to continue the SDS world at this point. If I remember correctly there was an interview years ago where he said he might do a sports story next and the Four Horseman would have been a short story or something.

Ignoring the in verse reason he got rid of it, I think Nakaba probably just didn’t know how to go about it being against Arthur. Imagine trying to right a villain who not only has to be BEYOND LIFE AND DEATH, but beyond ACTUAL EXISTENCE ERASURE entirely.
