For me, discovering the music of Melissa Etheridge back in the 80's was like coming home; in her music, we had home and a place to call our own. No one else like her was around...and we held tight to her and her music so we would never get lost again. Thank you Melissa, you will never know how many lives you saved.

To the world you may be a: "Black Woman" but to the God of all Creation, you are His daughter: devoid of all generic human labels. He personally knows you and loves you. He counts the hairs on your head, that is how much He pays attention. He has saved every tear you have ever shed in a bottle. You are an heir to His riches and throne. All of it was lovingly passed to you by grace on the cross. Never ever forget that. I hope you never forget that. Mock me, I could absolutely care LESS!

Funny how the best stuff a musician puts out isn't always what hits big...but it endures because it rings true and speaks to people's hearts. I was a lesbian US Army officer in the late 1980's - long before "don't ask, don't tell" came and went - and it caused me some definite heartaches. I will always bless Melissa for having the courage to share her personal journey. Her music helped ease my way. And I bet a lot of other old lesbian vets would say the same.

@TmaadHMD2 жыл бұрын
My former partner would listen to this. I came across this song in his playlist during the time when I was leaving him: the last week in February 2021. I remember feeling the tears slide down my face as this played. Our relationship of 12 years, often fiery and tumultuous, full of many tears and unspoken words, of regret, remorse, taint, jealousy, misunderstanding, loneliness, had come to an end. But there were other times, other times of beauty and love. Times when I held him in my arms and caressed his head and temple, when I massaged his body, held him in my arms, when I looked into the beautiful green hazel of his eyes. When I remembered our past, when we met back in upstate CT - I was 27, he was 31. I was leaving him, leaving the home we shared, leaving so many memories behind. And all of it, broke my heart. As luck may have it, he and I may reunite later this year. They say when it is meant to be, it is meant to be. We shall see.

@tamie6811 - It is interesting to look back at passages that we once wrote with tenderness and longing and love. As to your question, no. Steven and I did not reunite. There was too much hurt and disappointment. We stopped speaking in 2022. I am now with someone whose very loving and caring and makes me feel acknowledged and appreciated. I will always have a tenderness for Steven as he was my first, true love. I hope wherever he is, that life is kind to him. ❤

We had no place to go. Then I read about the evil surrounding the murder of Matthew Shepard and realize nothing has really changed in years. The little angel didn't even have a chance to live. I never meet Matthew, but feel as if I lost a little brother and a best friend. REST IN PEACE MY LITTLE ANGEL. GOD WILL PROTECT YOU NOW. LOVE YOU.

Had a long time friend. It was no secret that I (and he) wanted to cross that line. However we convinced ourselves that it wasn't in our best interest because we let other people influence us. We pushed down what we were actually feeling to appease other people. Until one night he came to pick me up. We drove way out of town to the coast.....I never went to sleep that night. I watched him until the sun came up. I didn't want to wake up from that moment.

Like any good story this starts slowly and has something about it that catches your ear then before you know it you are caught in the storyline and you can't put it down because, hey, "We got nowhere to go." Back to the quietude of the verse is like floating down a long slow river and then around the corner you hear the raging rapids, "You might as well scream". I enjoy the instrumental breaks between the chorus and the verse.

I was happy when I caught up to myself, but now I sometimes wish I could let it all go again and just not give a frack. I love this so much - the music, the lyrics, the video; the whole package. It speaks so true of what people want - simply to hold each other, dance together, love each other - and the indescribable unfairness in the way society frowns upon anything that's not considered "the norm", any couple that seems "unnatural". Though the same (or something similar) can be said for a lot of Melissa's songs and the videos that go with them, this one just really gets to me♥
