How marvelous and exiting. I forgot how inspiring it was going to the ballet. Melissa and Andre. Fabulous dancing. Charming. Elegant. I miss those performances. The great artist of the past. No disrespect to the new and very accomplished dancers of today.

Ah memories. I was fortunate to see Ms. Hayden many, many times in the 60's at the Dade County Auditorium in Miami, Florida. I met her and she signed her book for me. I was between 10 and 15. Her dance partners were mostly Jacques d'Amboise and Edward Villella. Always fantastic, fabulous, stunning performances. She was my favorite ballerina for her dance talent and LOL also because my maiden name was "Hayden".

I partnered her there one year too in Valse Fantaisie.

For their day, this performance is perfection!Perfection actually, except for one hop en pointe at the end in the four promenades en attitude. Miss Hayden must have been exhausted by then! The tv lights are unimaginably hot. This pas is one of the hardest for endurance ever created. She was so wonderfully capable of making it look easy as pie. As a little girl in 1960, I was a ballet student and later on I was honored to dance with The Eglevsky Ballet in the years before Mr. Eglevsky passed away. This video is a reminder, for me, of how great these American dancers were and always will be in the history of American ballet.

I love Millie Hayden. This is the first thing I've seen of her that I didn't love. The Rose Adagio is obviously no picnic. Perhaps it was rehearsed with limited TV time? Ms. Hayden, however, does have that familiar flair and determination that is true star quality. I will always get excited at the prospect of seeing her in video I was unaware of. I think I'll come back later and watch it again out of respect for her.

According to Alexei Ratmansky (an expert on authentic Petipa choreography) what Hayden does here is more true to the original choreography and style.

As always, following your footsteps ! Incredibly, this guy does 8 pirouettes in this film ! As he started turning I tought he would do 4 or 5... But he does 8 ! But it's nice to see this, many things have changed on that pirouette technique, but looks like the secret is a strong torso balance and good spotting.
@juanjosefarina7 жыл бұрын
Many teachers claim that for better pirouettes you must have higher passé, higher relevé, etc., etc... But then if this guy Eglevsky can do 8 pirouettes like that... You gotta see the theory is wrong ! hahaha

was the style at that time also sergeyev and chabukiani in russia executed like that in the same period

Maybe it is the tape but she is often out of sync with the music playing, however Andre is pretty much on the beat (even his little stumble)> Nice to watch and she survives the balances with a little repositioning here and there.
