This episode did more for the character of Vader than any movie or show. Up to now, they just told us how he was feeling... here, you can see the pain, madness and hate in his eyes... even the regret. This was excellent writing and brilliantly acted. Possibly the best acting in any SW show or movie ever.

hyperbole aside it was a fantastic scene, and I find it interesting that it really cemented their relationship at the core of everything. In a weird way it kind of pushed Luke off-stage, but even that I actually think was almost good. Rather than being Vader's sort of 'destined' opponent like he felt in the originals, this kind of positions him as the x-factor. If Anakin and Obi-wan's relationship is at the core of everything, Luke is now the X-factor that is able to change the calculus by existing. To redeem his father and do what Obi-wan couldn't. Really it elevates the whole central drama.

When Vader says **"I am not your failure"** , his face is covered in blue light as if Anakin Is accepting the apology from Obi wan . Then his face turns red , when Vader returns with darkness . This was so symbolising in a way that even though He's Darth Vader there's is still some Anakin left in him only those who really know him can take out .(Another instance Ashoka ) and Finally Master Qwai Gon for 5secs after two and a half decades Overally what a great short series which greatly connects the events , also keeping the characters comically accurate . I will be not mad or sad if we don't get a season 2 . Loved your reaction and review

Considering that Obi-Wan is merciful, I think the Reva decision makes sense. He killed Maul because, in the moment Maul realized *why* Obi-Wan was there, he became a threat. He spared Reva, because by the time Obi-Wan could do anything, the threat had passed and he knew that if she was ever going to go after Luke, she would have done the deed already. He couldn’t make that leap of faith with Maul

The music explanation. Vader as a Example wasn't fully Darth until Obi Wan gave up on him the music came in when he was fully formed . Lea became the person she was in her last scene. Most of their music cues came when they came full circle . As A Star Wars Nut since 1977 this series to me explained so many things. Why in New Hope did Obi say Darth Killed Anakin, because Vader did kill him . Explains the big lie . Obi Wan from that point forward called him Darth. As far as the writing ? You need to watch this as one show, ups and downs. Star Wars has had bad writing for years the content has always over come that. Just listen to the Original cast talk about the Lucas writing. This was a Amazing series and I wouldn't change a thing.

I sometimes think fans expect a fully developed person from Hello use Reva as a example we have slowly seen her grow and I believe we have just started her story . I in this series got to see a side of Uncle Owen that I never have seen . He was just a mean parent until this series . Now I have a entire new prospective of him. He loves and wants to Protect Luke instead of just needing a "free worker " like He was shown in New Hope. There has been so much shown and revealed in this series that I have seen and just loved. It was So freaking good and the weekly nit picking has killed me . Like people said to Anakin "Patience Young Padawan " Seeing this as a complete series has been a game changer

Eh that's not actually accurate? I mean, they tied things up in the new movies and shows like this to fix the problems created in the beginning. Kenobi called him Darth in Episode 4 because the rest of the story and universe hadn't been fleshed out yet. That actually WAS his name in the beginning. Then they changed it and "Darth" became a title. So, by putting that in this series, they've done a retcon and fixed it.

The musical cues were left out until then because Obi-Wan was disconnected from the force and once he reconnected fully it was approriate. Darth was not fully who he was until after the battle so the imperial march was not in effect until then.

There’s a difference between using it scarcely to preserve its value and choosing it literally not use it at all until one scene at the very end. Yes, it may have felt rewarding, but it was overshadowed by a feeling of “why wasn’t this played during any other major moment”. Nobody’s asking to play the imperial March every time Vader is on screen, just during the important moments (not just one). That is quite literally the importance of a leitmotif, it is consistently (but not overly) played to characterize someone’s action or development arc.

Musical Cues .... The Theme Music is there to express when the Character is in they Purpose or Destiny... So when Vader summits to the Emperor, Leia takes on the place of Princess, Obi-wan comes into his full power and is free from the guilt over the training of Anakin... While leitmotifs and broader themes may be used during moments where a character is “in they purpose or destiny”, it may also be seen personifying character’s choices, development, actions, and tragedies. It also can be used to foreshadow ahead before a character even reaches “they purpose or destiny”. This is why the leitmotif commonly known as “Vader’s Theme” is utilized in the prequels during key moments of Anakin’s path towards his fall from the light. It may also be used to add emphasis to flashbacks or mentions of characters and events long after their time. Musical themes and scoring in general are a lot more complex than just representing a character in their prime. Look up interviews from John Williams describing the origins and purposes of his themes, as well as how he uses them, and you’ll see what I’m referring to. I’m a composer and study this stuff.

So glad they landed the ending with a gut punch of a duel. Ewan and Hayden really delivered at the end. Great to see so many legacy characters return with the special cameo at the end. Wish I could care about the new characters so much. I don't want a S2 this fits perfectly into a new hope. Does not mean that I wouldn't be against Obi Wan popping up in Andor for example but I don't see a good story going forward for S2

Obi Wan had to kill Maul. Maul was as evil as they come. Reva is not the same. She was a youngling who was nearly killed by Anankin/Vader and was a victim of extreme trauma. Her not killing Luke was her starting to return from the Dark Side. Where she goes from there isn't for Obi-Wan to decide. Revenge has guided her life, but now she sees a different path to take. Kenobi understood this. Killing her at this point isn't defending or protecting Luke. It's murder, and that could drive Obi-Wan to the dark side himself.

When Vader gets into a defensive stance after Kenobi’s initial assault in the beginning it shows he’s adapting and surprised by the ferocity of Kenobi’s attacks after absolutely manhandling him in the first duel he had in the series.

About the scene with Qui-gon.. I feel it is perfect, actually. We already knew that Obi-wan had received a manner of training from Yodi, regarding how to 'commune' with Qui-gon. We saw his attempts at this throughout the series. He was just not in the right place, in his mind and heart. Obi-wan, reclaiming his purpose in the Force (with Leia's help) and finally receiving closure with Anakin, had attained that inner peace, which had been missing. I feel those moments were essential in allowing him to see, hear, and talk to Qui-gon.

it's good that they used the themes only at the end. it has more meaning and impact that way! Besides the Vader theme has a pretty cool reason why it's not played sooner. Vader wasn't fully "Vader" There was still a conflict in him. But after the fight and after he talked with palps he let Anakin die once and for all. That's the point Anakin became fully Darth Vader. And that's where they played the imperial march.

Leia was not princess Leia until the end because she felt a separation for her adopted family, so she was not princess leia. Finally reva was not an inquisitor she was an young ling searching for revenge. They all didn't because who they really are until the end.

Personally, as much as I love DotF and BotH, I'm glad they kept them out of this series, since each of them represent a particular moment in history, and let's be honest, the music for this duel was also sublime, fitting perfectly the moment and what it involves. And bringing the OT cues up till the end was also a good move IMO, for it shows that this series was somewhat of a turning point for all of these characters onto the ones we'd meet in ANH

@@reca2489Duel of the Fates nor Battle of the Heroes were written to “represent a certain period in history”. For DotF, it’s literally reused in ROTS because it is a composition emphasizing plot moments that put the fate of the galaxy at a crossroads. If Yoda had won the duel, he would’ve killed Palpatine and then went on to stop Anakin before he gained too much power, effectively stopping the Republic from fully transforming into an empire (there’d also be politicians that would be allowed to speak their mind freely and continue to preserve democratic ideals present in the Republic). It wasn’t meant to just be a “lightsaber prequel fight” soundtrack. Battle of the Heroes, despite not being reused (since it was made during RoTS) does not represent that either, it is simply meant to emphasize the conflict between two heroes with clashing ideologies and needs. I can understand not using that in Kenobi, since Vader wasn’t really considered to be a “hero” at least objectively, but the creative team were planning on incorporating both scores into that last fight. It was Kathleen Kennedy who ordered them to take it out, citing that it would make it “too close to the prequels”. She obviously had a similar misunderstanding as to why those two pieces are so important.

Quigon entrance was done perfect. It would be to generic to have him show up at scenes when you expect to show up & gives obiwan a boost of power or w/e. The dialog was perfect as it was directed towards the audience as well as how many years it’s been since we have seen him.

I know I'm a bit late to the game with this one, but I loved the way you put it into words with how Vader states "He killed Anakin" that Obi-Wan comes to the realisation that Anakin has gone too far and destroyed the best parts of himself, and looking into the lore, you can sympathise to an extent with Vader wanting to eradicate his past, for the sheer fact he knows he's responsible for the death of the person he loved most. I think we can all relate to him, as every single one of us hits a point in our lives where the darkest part of us comes to the surface and we almost and sometimes do hit self destruct on ourselves, the show in all did an amazing job of connecting the prequels, the animated series and the originals, and I can't wait to see more of this vicious, destructive and unbound Vader "hopefully" in the Ahsoka series

I've yet to see a reaction video or comments on it that note young Luke's reaction to Uncle Owen about an impending threat that he doesn't understand..."I'm not afraid"...as he later says to Yoda on Dagobah, which ties into every characters' perception of Anakin. Obi-Wan states as much when saying goodbye to Leia. It's such a small thing, easily overlooked, yet it subtly underscores every OT reference to Anakin with regard to Luke and how much he is like his father. Just a thought.

It's very cool to see how creators of this fight make attention to lightsaber's fight formes Obi Wan's stance, in which he puts his hand forward, is the stance of the third form of lightsaber combat - Soresu, this form was invented when the Jedi were faced with the need to fight opponents armed with blasters, thus Soresu - defensive form, a warrior who uses this form is almost invincible in defense, but it's difficult for him in attack, Obi Wan uses Sores for the first half of the fight against Vader, but after he gets out from under the stones, he attacks Vader and does it more aggressively, here you can notice that his form of combat changes, he starts using the stance that Qui Gon used during the fight with the Maul, and Qui Gon used Ataru - the fourth form of lightsaber combat, it is much more aggressive and accurate, it - one of the best choices for single-opponent combat, she also relies heavily on acrobatics, so she was one of Yoda's favorite forms of combat, who constantly used jumping during battle

I liked how they choose to bring Qui Gon in last. Obi Want was hassled by lots of question about the end of the Jedies, how he "killed" his own padowan then realized he did not but made him into a monster instead. When he was reliefed by his guilt, his mind became openminded and serene enough to face Qui Gon.

Thoughts on Reva- I think that after the events of this ep, she walked out into the desert expecting the end, got captured by the sand people and eventually became part of the tribe, adopting their dress and language. Years later she trained a certain bounty hunter in the ways of the sand people... ;)

Qui-Gon: "It took you long enough." and "I was always here. You just weren't ready to see." To me, this is Qui-Gon telling Obi-Wan that it was his PTSD and disconnection from the Force that resulted in Obi-Wan's previous inability to connect with Qui-Gon's Force Ghost. I loved that part!! "Hello there!!" Maybe someone can help me out here - I'm unsure why this statement draws such a good reaction from the fans. I'm certain he said it before, but I just don't remember when and where and to whom?

He said it in "A New Hope" to Luke when Luke regained consciousness after being attacked by the Sand People. (Luke was searching the desert for R2, who had escaped the Owen homestead to search for Obi-Wan.)

Liam Neeson recorded an entire discussion with Yoda for Episode 3 but Lucas cut it. In the movie, it pics up when Bail Organa seems to interrupt Yoda to tell him the babies re about to be born. In the Episode 3 novel, it has the full scene of Qui-Gon speaking to Yoda as the first force ghost, but only as a voice. In the film, Yoda tells Obi-an to hang back fora moment and says Qui- Gon had spoken to him. Yoda first heard Qui-Gon in Episode 2 when Anakin kills the Sand People. If you recall that scene, Qui Gon screams "ANAKIN, ANAKIN, NOOO!"

Knowing that Alec Guinness didn't know any of what we know when he put those glances and pained looks and inner conflict in those scenes just shows how amazing he was as an actor - bringing unbelievable depth to a role with no background at the time. But now, yes, it's obvious that Phil Brown wasn't just playing a crotchety farmer. His portrayal of Owen in 1977 with the frustration and cynicism and foreboding and wisened experience and salt-of-the-earth farmer... it's just so good as well. And so, Joel and Bonnie... yes, very very good.

The musical cues did not belong earlier because we were not near the time of A New Hope. At the end here, it is time to use them. The "hello there" sounded similar to Alec Guinness. Now I understand why Owen is so rough with Luke in A New Hope. I always thought he was mad at Obi Wan, but now I see that he only said bad things because of Luke wanting to join the Academy. The actor and actress for Owen and Beru are the same as in Revenge of the Sith.

If that were true we wouldn’t hear foreshadowing cues in the prequels for Vader’s theme. Also what about Leia makes her more herself now. What real development did she get? She wanted to fight for a good cause before she went on this adventure and she’s much the same after, just with a holster.

We already know that Reva didn’t say anything about Luke to anyone…see Star Wars - A New Hope. Her mind was now free of her revenge agenda and she was no longer a threat which is y Obi Wan let her go. I’d be surprised if she doesn’t end up being an op in the Rebellion.

Im sure they only used the music in this episode because its also the episode where Obiwan finally gains his peace and is once again connected to the force which is why he can see Qui gon’s force ghost
