I dry lavender the way you do I think it's the best way..I like to make lavender wonds and use it in some desert's and tea..infuse it in vodka and use it to spray the room and use the leaves too for this . I like to make small bundles and tie them with ribbon and set them on a shelf or a small dish. Also I put some in a jar filled with sugar and lavender ..makes a lovely flavored sugar .

Very informative and helpful. I finally successfully maintained a lavender bush from last year and it has buds all over. It is my pride and joy right now to be honest. I just picked up a second plant to start this year. Thank you for your tips.

This is the first year I got a really good harvest off my lone plant... it’s getting so big!! I use a rubber band to secure mine and I get them from my air conditioning vents by paper clip turned hook or on my louvre doors by the clip I got a ton off of that one plant I mentioned above!!

I just harvested bee balm, calendula flowers, plantain, and lots of mint! I bundle and hang most of them, but the flowers and loose mint leaves that I pulled from the stems are on a tea towel.

I have 10 or 12 lavender plants around 2 sides of my property in hopes of repelling deer. Knock on wood, it might be working. I will harvest blooms soon. Have already harvested thyme, dill and rosemary. I do prefer fresh rosemary, however. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Melissa, really enjoying your videos. I will be moving to western Washington in 1-2 months, so this is really helping me learn a lot about herbs and where to plants them. Would be fun to meet you someday. Keep the videos coming! I am learning so much...thank you.

We are looking at Lewis, Mason, or Gray's Harbor counties. We want rural and the kids and grandkids live in the Olympia, Wa area. We lived in North Bend at one time, raised a family, then moved to Texas. Our kids stayed in Washington. Now that we are retired, we are headed back up to be near family.

Another reason to dry upside down is make sure all the scent and medicine goes to the buds and not left in the stems. Susun Weeds has a video on a cool way to tie hanging herbs so as the dry the string will tighten automatically.

I've never had lavender success at this location. Former homes I had some success. But where I am now is a filled in swamp area so it doesn't work well as lots of critters to eat on it & not enough sun for other more important to MY NEEDS foods. Lol

We are planning on harvesting ours this week! It’s the first year we’ve had the plant so we’ll only harvest a small amount. My girls are excited. We’ll press a few pieces too. Do you harvest French/Spanish the same as the English lavender?
@MelissaKNorris

For using the dehydrator for herbs you want it at the lowest possible setting, preferably 95 degrees F and no higher if possible.

I heard that men tend to not like the smell of lavender. I don't mean like it stinks to them; it's just that they don't love it like women tend to. (Yes this is a very broad comment, there are always exceptions)

What's super funny about this is that I remember an Oprah episode from way back where they talked about a study that was done with scents. They found that the scent of lavender increased the blood flow in the penis. I've also read this a few times since seeing that. So, I guess, some parts of a man like the smell of lavender? LOL
