My current routine for my combo/ dry skin is AM: cerave hydrating cleanser, vitamin C, and Neutrogena hydro boost gel moisturizer with 15 spf and I apply another sunscreen 30spf as a final step. PM: micellar water (if I’m wearing makeup), wash my face with cerave hydrating cleanser and I do this twice to ensure all makeup is off. Then I add a few drops of marine hyaluronic’s all over and then apply niacinamide and alpha Arbutin. I then apply the cerave cream (it’s a thicker consistency) all over my face, neck and chest area. Finally I apply some squalene oil and let that absorb. So far this is working great for my skin but I need toner recommendations and also a mist possibly since I have the Mario mist (I know it’s bad but I just wanna finish it now 😅). My concerns are mainly hyperpigmentation and skin dullness

For toners, I haven't tried that many toners and so far there was not a toner that I liked😅 I recently ordered the Paula's Choice ENRICHED CALMING TONER which I haven't tried since I'm still waiting for it to arrive😊 For a facial mist, I recommend the Avene Thermal Spring Water or the La Roche Posay Thermal Water. For blackheads, I recommend a Salicylic acid solution/exfoliator such as the black one from Paula's Choice, which you also could only use on that specific area😊

Hey :) Not sure what you "a" means but you can use the Salicylic acid mask only 1-2 times a week. Apart from that, it's okay, yes. Hi Melissa I wanted to know which is better for brightening and a healthy complexion alpha arbutin or niacinamide? And also which is better glycolic or lactic acid ? Thank you
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet3 жыл бұрын
Generally, I would say Niacinamide is the better option since Alpha Arbutin is purely a brightening ingredient. Niacinamide also has other benefits see here: www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skincare-advice/anti-aging-wrinkles/how-niacinamide-helps-skin.html Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid are both AHA's which do the same job. Usually, Lactic Acid is better tolerated from my experience. You can read more about them here: www.paulaschoice.de/en/all-about-exfoliants It's the same information for The Ordinary; just Paula's Choice explains it much better and in a simple way :)

Do you have the AHA + BHA peeling solution? Have you already had a look at a Salicylic Acid solution or exfoliator (which can be used daily)? The Oridnary has one but it is currently not available. Another option would be the SA exfoliating solution from Paula's Choice or something similar because SA targets the following: - Oily skin - Sensitive skin - Breakouts and Blackheads - Rosacea-prone skin - Removes dead skin cells on the surface and in the pores - Combats breakouts, enlarged pores and blackheads - Anti-inflammatory properties - Not suitable if you’re allergic to aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And a maximum of three serum formulations in a single regimen. Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! AM Routine Daily: - Cleanse - Niacinamide - Alpha Arbutin - Moisturiser - SPF PM 1 Routine on the other days: - Cleanse - SA solution/exfoliator (Optional) - Retinol - Moisturiser PM 2 Routine 1-2 times per week: - Cleanse - Peeling Solution - Moisturiser

Hi! I just bought Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin, the lady suggested I use one of them in the night time and one in morning rather than using both at same time. But I forgot which one is for what and I’m confused what I should do right now. What I use to clean my face is Cetaphil facial cleanser then the moisturizer afterwards. And at night I use Cerave night cream then moisturizer. Can someone help me with a routine and how I should slowly start to add in TO Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin? Please and thank you!!

You can use both together in the AM and/or PM, however, using Niacinamide twice per day maybe too much as some people have told me that their skin didn't like it. However, you can use either of them in the AM and PM as both can be used in the morning and/or evening. Do you use the Cerave lotion in the evening?

Hi! I have Azelaic Acid and Niacinamide which I use everyday. I just started the peeling solution this week. I have hyperpigmentation and wants to try the alpha arbutin to target them. In what order should I use niacinamide and azelaic acid and alpha arbutin? Can I use them together both in PM or AM?

Have a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnqcqZSpedesmdE When using the peeling solution for the first time, please have a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYS8YaOPmN5rgbs You can use Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide after the peeling solution as well (I do not recommend using Azelaic Acid, since this is another Acid). But to start off with I recommend keeping it simple when using the peeling solution and just finish with a moisturiser if you feel the need. Also, if you are new to Alpha Arbutin, Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid, please use them once per day to start off with so that your skin can get used to it before using it 2x times per day. And there is no benefit of using Azelaic Acid 2x times per day.

@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can wash your face in the afternoon if you feel the need. I am unsure how long they need to be on the skin to do the job, but when looking specific treatments (e.g., Retinol, Azelaic Acid, etc.) up online, it should be after a few minutes, half an hour at max. So, technically, you could already wash your face after half an hour.

Hi Melissa! Love your videos! 💙 I have a little question and id be so happy if you can help me! I ve been using the Ordinary Niacinamide since april as AM routine together with a moisturizer or sunscreen and as PM routine ive been using Bioderma white objective night serum (Vitamin C). Ive recently purchased Alpha arbutin and Hyaluronic acid from the Ordinary and wanted to know if it can be used together with vitamin C (in PM routine) or is it enough to just use it in AM routine. Thank you! 🤗
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet4 жыл бұрын
Hello. I recommend using the Alpha Arbutin in the morning and evening. You have to be careful with the Hyaluronic Acid as it can get sticky very quickly when layering a few serums. I recommend using less maybe 1-2 drops. But generally speaking, you have to experiment and see what works best for you. They can be used in the same routine, yes. 😀

Alpha arbutin is often used to treat hyperpigmentation / irregular skin tone. However it takes quite long to see changes (at least 3 months) and most often, you wont need to apply it to the whole face, only certain areas (nose, cheekbone, eye area) Applying this product first and targeting these areas specifically, thus allowing it to penetrate first will give it a better chance of reaching the melanin irregularities deep within your skin and working on evening out the skin tone (without the niacinamide being in the way if you use too much and not all of it can be absorbed by the skin). I hope this makes a bit of sense. Unfortunately I can't explain it as well as the customer service of the ordinary when I asked her the same question.

The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! AM Routine: - Cleanse - Alpha Arbutin (Water-based Serum | Daily | AM and/or PM) - Buffet (Water-based Serum | Daily | AM and/or PM) - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse - Lactic Acid (Water-based Serum | Daily |PM) - Hyaluronic Acid (Water-based Serum | Daily | AM and/or PM) - Niacinamide (Water-based Serum | Daily | AM and/or PM) - (Optional) Moisturiser It is not recommended to use Buffet (- Peptide) in the same routine than Lactic Acid ( - Direct Acid). You can use Lactic Acid daily or only a few times per week. Also, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. With any new formulation, some sensitivity or initial redness can be normal. Initial redness upon application is not a cause for concern if it goes away after a few moments. Hope this helps🥰

Yup, I went to Esthetics school just last year. All skin types need a moisturizer. Specifically with “oily skin“ you should use one that is noncomedogenic. Thank you😊 Have a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJnVn3-YaM6gj80 I recommend using Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin separate from the L-Ascorbic Acid. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% cannot be used alongside any pure or ethylated forms of Vitamin C. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% can only be used alongside Vitamin C derivatives: - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% - Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F - Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% Also, Alpha Arbutin and Vitamin C may work but with bad luck a reaction can happen and it can burn your skin....I know that the Ordinary has an Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin serum - but that one is already mixed... You may want to do it like this: AM Routine: - Cleanse - Mix L-Ascorbic Acid Powder with for example Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% or your moisturiser. (It doesn't mix well with Hyaluronic Acid). - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse - Glycolic Acid - Niacinamide - Alpha Arbutin - (Optional) Oil and/or Moisturiser

Hi :) I'm wondering too... from my understanding, the niacinamide will decrease the oiliness in skin in time... as for moisturizer afterwards, I believe you're supposed to use it regardless cause you gotta lock in the moisture to protect your skin barrier... ? I'm just learning everything now and that advice stuck in mind hope it helps ♡
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet4 жыл бұрын
@@healingwaters1193 Yes, precisely Niacinamide will regulate the sebum production. No, that's not true I am not sure why this is so widespread...but if your skin is producing oil, you do not need to put another moisturizer on top. It acts already like one :) So you only need hydration, antioxidants etc. and the oil will do the rest. Of course, if you want to use a moisturizer that keeps your matt during the day, you can do so. I am not sure how this affects your skin but depending on how much oil your skin is producing it may look better or feels comfortable, but you may also get clogged pores... If you have dry skin and your skin cannot produce enough oil, it is essential to log it in. But if you do not have dry skin, there is no need.
