I purchased the same pump and im planning to do cam install to my 2015 caprice v8 6.0L (L77 Engine), Do you recommend deleting the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pan? My engine is stock bottom end, stock clearance just a dod delete and cam kit swap.
@whiplashtv2022 Жыл бұрын
Probably the best 2 options are to either shim the spring so that it will be harder for it to relieve or delete it.

I'm rebuilding a 5.3. Basically stock specs with aftermarket upgrades to handle nitrous. The only part I'm stuck on is the oil pump. A lot of mixed information out there. I looked at the M295hv but not sure if it's needed because no plans to increase bearing clearances. Any thoughts?
@whiplashtv20222 жыл бұрын
A huge detail is whether or not your stock spec 5.3 is a DOD motor or non DOD. I would run the Melling 10296 as seen in this video with the standard spring that comes installed if it were me. If your motor has displacement on demand then you have to have the extra volume because of how it works.
@GoodForYou45042 жыл бұрын
@@whiplashtv2022 My bad for not saying it is non DOD (gen 3). Makes sense to use the pump in this video. The volume is fine and I have the option to increase pressure if needed. I'm checking out your other videos. Lots of great info. Subscribed and thank you!! 👍

@@GoodForYou4504 Thanks for subscribing and checking them out! Yeah I would do the 10296. If my RCSB Chevy 5.3 LM7 that I have on the channel ever needs an oil pump then that is what I would put in it.

@@whiplashtv2022 I’ll switch it then I thought so also but my buddy ran it in his and had no issues so I said why not. It’s not a crazy build cam, dual valve springs trunion upgrade exhaust headers. Usually people will shim the stock oil pump to get more pressure out of it. On the Melling, just select the spring that you want for the desired pressure.

Do you have to rotate the crank after putting the bolts on ? I didn’t do it when putting mine on
@whiplashtv2022 Жыл бұрын
You do according to Mellings instructions. If you simply put the pump on and tighten it then gravity will have it sitting a little lower than it should and could cause premature wear and damage.
@codskilclanchannel6420 Жыл бұрын
@@whiplashtv2022 I just put it in and tightened it, but I’ve seen half the people say you have to shim and it and the other half say they’ve never shimmed it, idk what to do cuz then I’ll need to pull crank bolt and a new cover gasket
@whiplashtv2022 Жыл бұрын
@@codskilclanchannel6420 Melling says to do it the way that I showed in the video. They aren’t going to tell you to tear their pump apart to add shims and then reassemble the front of the pump. I figure that if they build the pump and give instructions on how to install it, then I am gonna follow that and not shim it. So I went with their instructions.

I have a 2009 chevy 1500 with the 5.3l engine code J. I canceled my ordered pump. Im now confused on which oil pump i should be using. 260000 miles with dod still active..
@whiplashtv20222 жыл бұрын
This pump will work for you. With DOD you have to have a high volume pump as a minimum requirement. A high pressure oil pump is not necessarily a requirement. If you are having oil pressure issues….have you tried replacing the oil pickup tube o ring?
@Crozier45822 жыл бұрын
@@whiplashtv2022 i belive my o ring is falling or going to give out very soon. Oil pressure when cold is 40 but doesn't more with rpm (when cold i can drive down the road and no matter what rpm is stays at 40 psi) untill it warms up. Once warmed up it idles 20-30 and moved with rpm as it should. Im gonna replace the o ring and the oil pump because its got 260 thousand on it. Figured it can't hurt. Guys at melling said to get the m295hv, although i would like an increase in oil pressure so hopefully this will do it.

@@Crozier4582 replacing the o ring is a good idea. My oil pressure wasn’t rising with rom much and I had oil sludge to clean out. The video is here on the channel. The 10296 is an upgrade over the 10295hv. So if the 10295hv would work then so will the 10296.

I am not sure what springs the 355 pump is all supposed to come with. I don’t see why the installed spring would not be sufficient. I am running the installed spring on the 10296 and have plenty of oil pressure. I also deleted the piston squirters and the factory oil cooler as well.

@taylorsrus95432 жыл бұрын
The 355 hvhp is a superior pump. This is like the stock LSA pump. These you will often see oil pressure in the teens on hot days in traffic. His logic is sound but a bit misleading as you usually run more bearing clearance so it's not apples to apples. Also will depend on what oil you want to run. As with all things, it depends on your whole combination.
