A Mellow Switzerland (1/2)

Back in winter Daniel Woods, Jimmy Webb, Giuliano Cameroni, Keenan Takahashi and Roman Yalowitz spent the whole season in Ticino, trying to develop Val Bavona; one of the coolest climbing spots worldwide. Kevin Takashi Smith was there capturing the best moments so here we go with part 1/2!

this whole vid is insane but the starting couple minutes are truly incredible. the cut from Woods bailing to covid to the slow buildup into the main part of the video is so nostalgic and beautiful; perfectly bittersweet. makes me so psyched and so sad at the same time, lets all crush this pandemic to go crush outside again

It's better that Giuliano fell the first time on Squalo because Jimmy tapped him while spotting; probably didn't affect the climb at all but it would have put the tiniest seed of doubt in my mind if it was me climbing. He got a perfectly clean ascent hours later.

Using the pace of music to mirror the pace of climbing is something that I think about all the time. It's so damn inspiring to see/hear KTS using music from bands like Russian Circles to dictate the pacing of his videos. It's literally been a dream of mine for a long time to do something similar, but I simply have not built up the video editing skills to do so. It was fucking BADASS to watch Giuliano dispatch that rig just as the breakdown hit in Harper Lewis. This video is like a collision of worlds for me. The marrying of my two biggest passions. Amazing work, Kevin! I seriously can't overstate how much I love your work. Another band that I'd recommend to anyone here who enjoyed this would be the band/man Cloudckicker. He's got some incredible instrumental music.

Some of the best climbing footage I've seen consistently coming from mellow. Love all the music you all choose for the videos, too. The vids must be demonetised cause of the music, right? How do you all make money off of this? If it's strictly a passion project I commend everyone behind the production of the videos in this channel, they are seriously among my favourite and are super inspiring.
