Man, be safe and keep focus on every (!) move. Develop your deep inside focus and patience. Also, seems like you are always boosting speed in the end of the route, maybe you should think about it and control your desire to finish. We all understand what a great inspiration is Alex Honnold and other unique climbers, but his is so damn accurate and he is always moving with a stable speed and every move focus. Maybe you wanted to finish faster because of the wind and cold, but still, the cost of any possible mistake is critical. Good luck.

@@iosonoleggendo correct me if I'm wrong but it feels like one should be pretty confident with the route and moves before going for a free solo. In several places he was feeling around trying to find the right moves and how to advance. Like grabbing a hold, then bailing on that, grabbing another hold, then bailing on that too, then going back to the original hold before using a third one to actually do the move.

You ever heard of fog? You know, when it's a perfectly sunny day, and fog rises from the valley... Well spoiler alert... it can't rain from fog. And guess what. Weather forecast also exists, where you can actually see if it will rain or not. And don't you think I checked the weather at least 10 times in the upcoming days before the climb? The route was levels below my max. My max is 7c, this route was a V+. I've climbed hundreds of long trad/alpine routes, and this free solo was safer than any kind of climbing in loose rock with a rope. But all you think is "rope means security"... Which in fact is sometimes the opposite.

Very nice slab climbing and a nice video with good commentary. But I would hope that you please stop doing this, free solo is just long term a recipe for disaster. In our twenties we tend to believe that we are immortal (i was like that too, did some 50 degrees blank ice with 1000 m fall behind me). But when you see the first broken body at the foot of a wall, you quickly realize that even small risks will eventually realize to a bitter reality. It just needs a little slip, a breaking hold, an attacking bird or bad weather development and thats it.
@andrazegart Жыл бұрын
Thank you, and yes you are right. I mean you can eliminate most of the risk with good preparation, but there is always a risk, and the more you do it, the bigger the chance of disaster is. That’s why I only free solo a couple times a year, and only routes that really inspire me.

Next you're going to tell hikers to stop hiking because more people fall and die hiking than they ever do freesoloing. How many people fall off the rim of the grand canyon, or off mt baldy in Los Angeles, or off the waterfalls in Yosemite, then you ever hear about people dying from freesoloing? Yeah it happens, but if homie feels like he has mitigated the risks, and feels comfortable downclimbing if it gets sketchy, then who are you to try and convince him otherwise. He isn't stupid, he understands the risks, so you don't need to lecture him about "broken bodies at the base of a cliff", etc. That's just hyperbole and fear mongering to try and exert your own personal feelings on someone else. Be happy for his accomplishment (especially since you claim to have been a freesoloist in the past) and leave it at that...
