That won’t work in Fukuoka because on average the majority people will never make it on the first or even second attempt. Usually after the 5th or 6th time. In Japan Fukuoka ranks as one of the worst when it comes to failing the DL test even you you drive well and you know it, they usually won’t pass you, it’s more about siphoning off as much cash as they can. It took me 6 attempts to make mine and I’m a very good driver, my problem was when I went into a curve, they docked me on the timing of my lane change coming out of the curve telling me, I’m about 5 seconds off when coming out to transition while turning on my blinker and moving into the other lane. It was all BS, but I understand and just had to swallow it and do what I needed to do. Never argue with these people because in the end, you are the one that needs the license, not them, being nice and polite always helps, as long as they know you’re giving your best effort, there is no guarantee, but it could help and even though I failed those times, it was still an overall interesting and kind of fun experience, but I can tell you once you do get your license you feel like you climbed Mt. Fuji. Loved the video good points, I was lucky, I didn’t have to do everything from the beginning, just the drivers course, but I had to do exactly like you were saying, every move you have to emphasize and over-exaggerate it, I can’t stress that enough, if the instructors don’t see you do that, they can fail you just for not doing that, beware of that. Again, very informative and nice video👍🏾

Yea I watched this video many times and didn't pass last month, here in Okinawa. I don't speak much Japanese which all the course introduction was only done in Japanese. I understand I'm in another country though. Will see how I do tomorrow. I also believe they just want money, it is a shame.

Thank you for this video. I managed to pass the test in my first attempt due to such videos. When you have all the rules clear in mind you can stay calm and confident during the test and pass it. One tip i would like to share which can be helpful: before the test, once you are assigned the course, try to memorize the same so that during the test you know when is the next turn coming up. This helps a lot. And even if you forget any of the upcoming turns, the proctor guides you anyway.

1. When checking upon entering the car to start the test, always adjust your room mirror and seat position first before putting your seat belt on, 2. Five point check after you start before driving not before starting 3. Physical back check before leaving 4. When making right turn, go close as possible to diamond etc in the middle of intersection but don't drive on it

Okay, Feb 15th 2023, I just took the driving test after watching this video. I took it in Nagoya (the hardest in Japan) I had course B. We were 12, only 1 got it. Someone I talked to took it 6 times. When I was done driving they said: I was to slow. I put my turn signal too late, had to be 30m before turning I checked everywhere too much (usually I don't but this video recommended it) I need to stay on the left more instead of the middle like every other countries in the world do. I got 50/100 need 70 to pass. Taking it next month. They were two in my car. Good luck to all.

@Pointless Rat Race I passed my exam on the 4th time, lol. Not only you need to mind all the small details, you also need luck. I think they won't let you pass because they want you to remember every detail that is required to drive safely in Japan. Even Hamilton won't pass the exam on the first time. Remember all the details mentioned in the video, it does help a lot. Good luck.

Wish I had this video 20 years ago. Its important to know the "secret handshaking" procedure and follow it precisely in order to pass the test. If you haven't watched this video or you have not gone to their training schools you have to pay big $$$ to get trained on how to pass the test you will fail. After I failed my first practical exam I asked the instructor what I had done wrong. He refused to say. I said, if you are unwilling to tell someone what they did wrong how can you expect them to improve and be safe drivers on the road? I had failed the test after driving myself 3 hours down a mountain road ( that most Japanese would be terrified to drive down ) from where I lived using an old stick shift car the nearest testing center. The major difference from success and failure is knowing what they expect of you on the test. The driving test isn't about logical and practical driving. Its about following a precise script and following it to a T, only someone has to tell you what the script is in advance if you have any hopes of passing. Japan is also full of unwritten rules of behavior in society which is learned throughout life. One has to have savvy enough social skills to be able to find out what they rules are to avoid the BATSU. Now I live in a country that if I needed a Japanese license I could just transfer mine over.

That’s what i tell people, i was a truck driver/Limo Driver in the States and a Taxi driver in Brazil before coming to Japan ( over 10 years professional driving experience) and i Still took lesson on how to do the test, it doesn’t matter how much you know, you must do the test the WAY THEY Want It! So in this video I’m trying to show just that… Thanks for watching and leaving your comment :) Peace

Interesting video. I expected it to be a little more difficult. My driver's test when I was 17 was a little more stuff like parallel parking and 3-point turns. With the parallel parking you had to be close to the curb as well. My DMV tester was notoriously strict so I guess I developed good skills because I still do all of this stuff today including signaling from a stop. Lol.

@@vincentzou8750 I haven't taken the test myself, but Mellow's comments in the video description indicate that it is required. @@JoeFrickinFriday yes, you're right. But during the test you may not have enough time to do that, unless you stop the car to do the pointing. Mostly just turn head apparently to pass the test. Unfortunately, I failed on my first try, just yesterday. I didn't make any practice ahead. I made two fatal mistakes: one is ignored the stopping sign(止まれ), one is crossing over the curb while entering the S road. I didn't expect to make such mistakes before the test, but I still made them. So, practice is necessary before ahead especially if you are from a left-wheel country. I will give it a second try two weeks later. I will try to avoid mistakes I made this time. That means I still won't attend any exercises. Wish me good luck two weeks later.

Sushil... You forgot the first check: you need to check underneath the car in case you ran someone over getting to the test centre and the body could still be trapped there!

This is a good video but one thing it doesn't (can't) overcome is when you have a driving proctor who pre-determines he will fail you. I had two hints that was going to happen on my first attempt. The first hint was when the admin person from the "Examinations" window brought me a form to "correct". I had placed "X" marks in the boxes, he wanted check marks. I had to re-do the form and when I handed it to him, he said "Next time you can do it this way". Next time?? The second hint was as I was beginning the skill test and the proctor (police officer) made a comment about driving like an American, I pretty much figured at that point I would be failed. And I was.

At every center they want Checks not "Xs" i had to redo my form twice as well for this reason and because i signed in cursive instead of putting block letters. this is just the kind of procedural stuff that is very important in japan but seems silly to us.

Two years ago I started studying for my test and watched your video for the first time ! Thanks to your advice, and these other helpful Japanese videos I was able to pass on my first try! kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6vSgWZ8l9J6prM, kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooatlJh_aK6ljtE It's also important to note that the S turn, crank turn, and final stop can be tricky if you don't actually go to a training center and practice them, or do a walk through of what to expect at the driving center before taking the test ! Thank you very much Mellow!! And good luck to everybody else trying to pass it on the first attempt!

Highway basically stay under 19km over the posted speed limit, the cameras won’t bother you :) ex 80 don’t go over 99… but if you are in a Federal road ( toll free) try not to go over 10km extras over the speed… been doing that, never had a problem
