When first watching this, I thought it was a weird way to visually represent the meaning behind void, rebirth by escaping depression and anxiety and an old version of yourself, but when you rewatch it you notice all the little hidden details and symbolism that Melanie uses to express herself. In the first scene, Crybaby, or Melanie, pushes herself out of a heart, and becomes a new creature, both showing the rebirth of Crybaby as a new creature, and how Melanie is letting go of an old version of herself. She then enters a door while looking behind her, making sure she's not being followed, and runs into the Void where she is chased by herself, or at least creatures that look similar to her. She then goes into another room where I can only assume she's watching herself incubate, and appears to be judging herself before she's even a new person. The creatures then hatch and just menacingly watch as she crawls away and falls into a new room full of bugs. In the room there is what looks like a window where you can see a bright star, and because we know Melanie likes to put tarot card references in her music videos, when you look up what the star means it says that upright it can mean faith and hope, but reversed can mean insecurity, discouragement, and faithlessness. The bugs in the room represent her insecurities and she takes a sword to one of the bugs and it flowers grow out of the bugs wound, which could represent the card being turned upright by letting go of insecurities and discouragement, and having faith and hope for a new beginning. She then falls through a tunnel, and somehow has a g-n, a sh00t5 herself and moths come out of her, and moths can represent change, transformation, endings, and death. She then falls out of a tower and the video end, but the tower is symbolic as well, the Tower Tarot Card upright represents disruption, change of life, and awakening, showing that she has completely left her old self behind, and is ready for a new life. That's just what I could interpret from the music video, but art is for the viewers to interpret however they'd like to, so I'd like to hear what other people think!

i love how in this video, she portrayed the feeling of anxiety. especially the parts when there was a giant eye behind her, it showed the feeling of being judged and watched in my opinion. also, the part where there are many of herself or at least creatures that look like her chasing her. For me, it kind of shows the feeling of being scared of embarrassment, or being judged and being paranoid that people are judging you. i can definitely sometimes relate to this song and the video how i saw it. thank you melanie for being such an inspiration and idol to me

Yes! I love the visual expression at the part where she’s falling and she has the gun to her head, she doesn’t shoot but butterflies come out the back of her head, I read a thing saying butterflies represent anxiety and thoughts of death and then after all the butterflies escape she starts drowning in them which represents drowning in your bad thoughts, after she’s escaped the butterflies she can finally escape the void. ❤

Make sure your streaming PORTALS and the mv’s because the views are getting smaller and smaller, TUNNEL VISION debuted with 1.4M views and 250K likes in its first 24 hours and FAERIE SOIRÉE only had 1.2M views and 230K likes in its first 24 hours, Melanie is working really hard on these videos and even had to sacrifice the budget of the PORTALS film for these mv’s and for videos like these it’s probably a lot of budget to put into each video so that’s why there might be a difference in quality, so everyone please keep streaming to make Melanie proud🧚‍♀️🍄🕯️✨

Honestly this song came at a perfect time for me, and it's just a coincidence that it's the one Melanie wrote all by herself. I am at a point in my life where im trying to make changes for the better. I started therapy not too long ago and was diagnosed with ADHD and generalized anxiety. I showed this song (and eventually the whole album) to my therapist to help explain to her how I feel. She loved it btw lol

I love how Melanie was able to portray how anxiety can give you the feeling of being trapped in your head, stuck with over thinking and constant anxiety, and thinking that the suicidal thoughts being your only way out, while ALSO portraying finding peace with yourself and understanding your anxiety is not who you are is beautiful, I've been dealing with extreme anxiety and listening to this song brings me a sense of peace, giving me an understanding that the pain is temporary, and I find it nice to know that even my role models understand how it feels and portrays it PERFECTLY while also telling their own story makes me feel like Im not alone, and of you're dealing with the same problem, I want YOU to know that you aren't alone, it may seem like it now, but remember that there's always someone to help you, and look out for you, maybe you just haven't met them yet, but remember, that no matter what, you aren't alone. A small detail I noticed is that when the Creature is being chased by the big eye, the pupil of it keeps getting big then small over and over again. According to google “When we are stressed, the sympathetic spurs initiated with ‘struggle or escape’ stimulus dilate the pupil” Which makes perfect sense since Mel is trying to escape the void. The amount of effort and detail that Mel puts into her work is just amazing. Amazing work Melanie! This is just absolutely beautiful!💗💗💗
