Really nice set of tunes and well played by the contributors. Not easy to do with a camera pointing at you. Prefer Megan’s version of Tanteeka to the Blowzabella version on Octomento!

Good morning, never played a musical instrument before keen to learn how to play the melodeon mainly Scottish tunes. Any advice most welcome on the best one’s to buy and avoid.

That’s a big question…whilst the D/G box is a staple of the English Folk scene, there are very few in Scotland, where the accordion is the equivalent. So In mho a D/G box isn’t really suited to Scottish music. If you want a DG, then I would go for a 2 1/2 row, with 12 bass buttons, stop to take out the “thirds” and a “4th button” start, and have it tuned to Paul Youngs layout. TBH, if I was starting out from the beginning, I’d look seriously at a 5 row Chromatic Button Accordion. Expensive and harder to learn but you pay your money and take your choice.
