Discover how to play more melodic sounding blues solos by using guide tones and the 'minor6' pentatonic scale. The 'guide tones' in a chord are the notes which really give it it's sound, so by learning to 'target' them you can make your blues licks really 'fit' whichever chord you're playing over. With a little practice your blues solos will sound 'sweeter', more melodic, and will follow the 12 bar blues chord progression. Best of all, you don't need to learn arpeggios or new modes to do this; I'll show you how to easily add the guide tones into all the blues scales and licks you're using already. So jump in and let's get YOUR blues solos sound more meorable and melodic!

✨ TABLE OF CONTENTS ✨
45 - In this lesson you'll learn how to match your blues licks and solos with the chord you're playing over. This will help you play more melodic blues solos.
22 - The 12 bar blues in the key of G. What chords are used and how can we target them for more melodic licks?
50- Introducing 'guide tones'. These are the 3rd and the 7th of the domonant seventh chord. Targetting these can bring out the sound of the chord really strongly.
03 - Let's look at where the guide tones are for the G7 chord (I chord)
48 - The 7th is already in the minor pentatonic scale. Let's add the 3rd in to help bring out the sound of the I chord. How you can practice this to start using this technique.
05 - Here are a few guide tone licks to help you get started with targetting the I chord. We'll look at a classic blues starting lick plus a technique called 'enclosure'.
45 - Let's find the guide tones for the IV chord now (C7).
40 - We can get the guide tones of the IV chord by playing the 'minor 6' pentatonic off the I chord over chord IV. This simple change will bring out the sound of the IV chord.
50 - TIP! The 6th (3rd of IV) sounds great on the I chord. So, you could actually play the minor6 pentatonic over chord I too!
02 - What about the v chord? I sugest just using blues or minor pentatonic scale for now. Why? 'Cos it sounds great on the v chord with some great cool tensions!
18 - Let's hear all these approaches over a 12 bar blues in G now.
