I was a trumpet player before I started learning melodica and this is very similar to how I was taught to breathe, the major difference being the importance placed on the diaphragm, good job.

Hello, i recently had my first melodica (yamaha p-37) and i face 1 problem, the sound is really TOO loud... Is there a way to lower this?
@MelodicaWorld
@MelodicaWorld 4 жыл бұрын
There's 2 things you could try that won't solve your problem, but could help. 1) Try blowing very softly. It's not ideal, but gives you an idea of the pitch, while not disturbing your neighbours. 2) Practice only the finger movements. Once you know what finger movements to practice, say a little phrase, just do them without blowing. It's actually a practice technique I use all the time. Not because I'm trying to be quiet, but because you can focus fully on the hand mechanics, without being distracted by the sound. It helps you develop internal awareness, confidence and relaxation while playing

Hi Daren, Sometimes it takes a while for me to hear sound when I blow into the melodica. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?
@MelodicaWorld

Sounds like some of your reeds but need adjusting, it’s called ‘gapping’ adjusting the gap between the end of the tongue and the reed plate. Have a look here: melodicaworld.com/forums/topic/gapping-101/
