Hello, thank you for sharing your journey. I started joining Irish trad sessions with my autoharp and played the chords, but I also felt the urge to learn the playful melodies and join the dance with other instruments. Thank you so much for your knowledge and reviews. I'm very close to purchasing a melodica and can't wait to start learning with you!

My first impression was wrong, because I only noticed the snapping of the valves with the second one, melodica B, even though melodica A also has valve-snapping. I immediately went back to the beginning of the video to prevent mistakes. Officially, I think that if they increase the gap of the soundholes of the cheap one, meaning it's less muffled, it will sound as good as the expensive one.

@MelodicaWorldАй бұрын
You can use the left hand to play chords or single notes to accompany the melody. The lower notes can sound louder than the higher ones, so in general it’s best to keep chords short.and to a maximum of two notes.

Sir, I love how you are playing the instrument. Could you explain how you get that stutter like sound when you play? I don't know if stutter is a good description, but it makes the music very beautiful and I find it fairly hard to replicate.

Yes, I know what you mean, they’re called triplets, and come from Irish music. I explain how to do it in the 10 tips for prop melodica players. Let me know how you get on. Or if you need further help, post on melodicaworld.com

You can pretty much make music on ANYTHING!! The " Africans" have proven that to the extreme, buy using coffee cans and plastic buckets. I used to have that argument with photographers, they always expected the " new" digital camera with more megapixels to have " magician included" inside. So that they would get award winning photos by simply pointing and shooting at anything. Nothing in art works that way. I grew up with the melodica, would play all the " Genesis" solos by heart and along with the band from our record player, and loud!! This wasn't done to " practice " but as an almost religious obsession to play in unison with the " Band" Its videos like your that have rekindled my interest in the instrument now as an older person, Genesis was 50 years ago!!
@MelodicaWorldАй бұрын
lol. So true, people don’t realise that bigger file sizes don’t make better photos. This quest for more and more definition where less often looks better in my opinion. Glad you’re back on the old melodica 😀

Super glue is amazing...I bought a busted up Kawai FS750 for $15 because it had a bunch of broken keys...I made a mold of the keys, and cast the broken ones in epoxy resin...and then super glue them back on, as well as super glue the not so bad ones back together. It's been almost a decade now and it is still holding up to near daily abuse. I also managed to paint match the yellowed keys and you can't even tell which keys have been repaired unless you look real hard. I have been thinking about making myself an electric melodica...but I am cheap, so I think I'd use one of those cheap ones as a base for the build. I would probably just end up using the "skeleton" as you've called it here. I have also been interested in trying some accordion reeds vs harmonica reeds. Or maybe both with a "switch" of sorts to go between / blend them. I think I would cast the cheap plastic keys in some nicer resin, adding some weight in the process. To make it electric, I would use some assortment of acoustic guitar pickups / preamps. I have seen people use them on harmonica, can't see why they wouldn't work on something like this. That would allow me to send it through pedals and whatnot.

I always have a tube of super glue handy! The Hammond 44 uses a pick up, it gives a smooth dark sound quite different to the acoustic sound

That is fantastic!! You're a designer, a woodworker, an artist, and a musician!! I'm really amazed at how much of the melodica you actually made. If you get a handmade guitar you will get skilled woodworking but 95% of the non wooden parts will come from a catalogue, you made everything but the springs and reeds and screws!!! Excellent video, as usual!!

I'm really addicted to the melodica now! It all started when I was an Uber driver, a passenger was talking about this little instrument that didn't need any power, you just blew into it! Curious, I searched on KZbin and came across this channel. Sonically to me, the melodica sounds a lot like a harmonica. I personally find harmonicas really hard to play though! I've just bought my first one, a very cheap Chinese model with 25 keys. It plays surprisingly well, I seemed to really bond with the instrument and likely will only be the start of my melodica journey!

@@MelodicaWorld I want a wooden body, high quality accordion reeds, and perhaps the most peculiar thing I want is for the range to be from C3 - C6 instead of the typical F3 - F6. If there was anyway of possibly making bending even slightly more easy, I'd love that, too. It is fun to dream 🤣
