Hey guys from Melodicamen, I was watching your video series, about how to play the melodic and I was able to confirm a theory that I had that the instrument sounds better making contracted chords; With your help, I was able to understand that the instrument sounds better, applying dynamics with the volume, intensity and frequency of the blow ... I congratulate you for playing the Melodica excellently and I thank you for sharing your techniques ... A hug 👐🏻

I've always wondered what the inside of the Melodica looked like, but I was always afraid I would break it if I tried to take it apart. I wasn't sure if it was a reed instrument or not... really cool to find out! Thanks!

@darkcisum33847 жыл бұрын
Can't you test the tuning before putting in all the screws again?
@MelodicaMen7 жыл бұрын
DarkCisum not that we know of because without the screws there is no channel inside for the air to be redirected into the reeds. The air just flies out of the side of the case and you can't hear the note. You might be able to leave out one of two screws but the note would probably be very soft and hard to hear.

Hey, thanks for that video! But I still don't understand, so the reed's material is permanently scrapped? What if I scrap it too much?
@tiaxanderson97257 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you do too much you'll have to make it (in this case) flatter by scraping some off the other side (indicated in the video). If it's too flat you'll have to make it sharper again.
@TheAlienizerTeam Жыл бұрын
damn! i play my melodica so much, that im not quite sure if it still is in tune! it was only a matter of time before having to come across the tuning process, and i really need the best of luck, as well as a more in detailed tutorial (not saying that this is bad, but to start, i dont even have my ear that developed as to recognize if a note is more sharp or flat just by listening to it) but if i wanna have a good sound, i will also need to be in tune ahhaahahaa

You don't have to put it all the way back together. Just apply enough pressure for the rubber gasket to seal so there's enough air pressure to make the note sound. You would cut the time by a factor of 10

Thanks for posting, I'm still doubting to start with it. I wanted a reasonably good melodica, so I bought a Suzuki M-37C Melodion, it was badly out of tune (ranging from 10-40 cents!). However the shop just argued that melodica's are always a bit high. I could return it though, and got a yamaha 37E, tuning is 4-25 cents high. Still a bit beyond nice to me. Is that acceptable for these high grade instruments, and should I get used to doing this myself?
@aaronisaacarias62992 Жыл бұрын
I can certainly relate. I just got a yamaha and was gonna duet with my self on ocarina when I notice the duet sounded off. I check the chromatic tuner and saw the melodica was sharp. It's very disappointing 😞 I mean if your playing with multiple instruments and percussion it's not really noticeable but in Duets it becomes more noticeable. 😢

I tried to tune my hohner soprano and my hohner alto using this method. I only did the lowest note on both instruments. They are now the correct pitch, but hardly respond. They reeds only start swinging slowly, when I blow gently, and won't swing at all when I try to blow strongly. The other (untuned) notes work perfectly. Now I'm afraid I damaged my instrument. And I don't think, I can undo the damage. :/
@Izakokomarixyz4 жыл бұрын
Thats probably because the space between the reed and the opening is either too far or too close. You’ll have to bend the reed to get the opening just right.

Hello, I'm planning on buying a melodica, for a beginner which model would you recommend me? As a beginner I really don't know how to tune instruments as I've basically no idea how it should sound, will I get it with time? Thx, love the videos
@MelodicaMen7 жыл бұрын
Bourgit thanks for asking. We would recommend the MM37 melodica as it is the highest quality instrument available for the lowest price(www.melodicamen.com/store/p10/mm37). You will learn how to tune it once you get it and try it but you won't need to tune it unless you play it for a long time!

thx for the info, I'll see what's available in my city as I'm french I suppose your store don't ship internationnaly?

I got mine a few weeks ago, and I have to say a few of the high notes are quite flat. The highest note, high F, is about a quarter tone flat. One other note, maybe the high C or D (I don't remember at the moment) is also flat. I'm not complaining; the MM37 is still a great value. I'm sure I'll be able to tune these notes, following the instructions in this video, but it's worth mentioning that some new instruments may still require tuning.

@MelodicaMen7 жыл бұрын
We've also noticed that sometimes random notes take slightly more air to play. It could be because the reed is a little farther from the reed plate. You could try carefully pushing the "mi" reed inwards.

Do we need to tune melodica every time? Is it necessary to tune Melodica?
@rowanbelt36123 жыл бұрын
No, they only need to be tuned rarely. I haven't had mine long enough to know, but from what I've heard, they probably need to be tuned every few months or few years, depending on how much you play them. As to whether it is necessary to tune it, it is only necessary if you don't like how it sounds out of tune.
