Very interesting. It would be cool to put these up against what the humble keystep pro can do in terms of randomization. Also interested to see how midicake ARP and NDLR compare

Black sounds much more interesting and glitchy.

I need more than one sequencer, I don't even know how many I have right now😂. I most often use the 0-ctrl from make noise in combination with the black sequencer from Erica synths. Each sequencer has its advantages and is more suitable for certain applications than others. You can see that very well in this video. Thanks for the great video 👍

The Melodicer isn't a sequencer. It's a probabilistic ("stochastic") pattern generator, with timing control similar to an Euclidian pattern generator. And neither is the Black. A sequencer would provide the user with direct (i.e. knob/slider) control over each step's pitch, duration, and other attributes such as accent, mute, slew rate, ratchet, etc. All of these gadgets are more in-line with West Coast ideas, and what Tip Top has done with its various pattern generators. The reality is that few of the patterns generated are actually musically interesting, because typical musical phrases are usually following a 1/f distribution in pitch and timing ; which these devices do not do directly.

It seems more like you have a certain definition of a sequencer, but in reality sequencers are sequencers if they can do things in sequence. Why they would need to have dedicated control of each step's pitch and duration, etc, I don't know. CV sequencers are sequencers. Trigger sequencers are sequencers.

You may want to start using the phrase "In my opinion".

Your narrow definition is wrong and my broad definition is maybe something worth considering?

I'd never heard that musical phrases follow a 1/f law - can you recommend some sources to read up on that?

Hell I don't know much but if you put one or more notes after another, isn't that a sequence that can be repeated? Isn't a pattern generator what's usually known as a sequencer?

A menu, SD card, and Latvia make Erica an absolute no-go. Melodicer is a beast.

Former GDR heritage makes Vermona an absolute no-go. Of course, this is absurd, but just as absurd as the postneuroleptic stuff "Jonathan" wrote here.

Yeah haha, if there is one like I love its petty grievances about small countries... @@McEnroe911
