Melodifestivalen 2017 | My Top 28 (with Comments)

This is my personal ranking of all the songs who competed in Melodifestivalen 2017 along with some concise opinions about each one of them.

The best type of "Top Melodifestivalen songs" videos are those which tend to be more analytical (for example when they involve the editors comments). Yours is very well done and I agree with you on many points. It's funny because we share the same top 3. And to be honest I would be happy if one of them went to Kiev. Amazing video!

I have to say I was both surprised and unsurprised that Statements only advanced to AC. I feel like people "don't get it" on one listen, but in my opinion, it's the best song in the contest this year. Actually both of my top two went to AC in SF4.

Most comments from mostly elderly people consists of: "not hearing the words clearly enough", "just yelling", "not a song", "one of the worst songs ever", and so on. I think those comments are bullsh*t lol. Her perfomance is so artistic and powerful. Most people does in fact, not get it.

Well, I agree that it should be a race between Nano, Jon and Aninia and Loreen, but I support Jon and Aninia because it is imo a masterpiece and it fits also perfect in this years motto.

Great top once again, I love reading your comments :) I think this year's Melfest is pretty good, I love your top two, both are simply artistic masterpieces. But I think my favourite overall would have to be Good Loovin', I just love the retro vibe it has while still sounding modern and fresh. I want him to win but I really don't think he will xD

Thank you very much! :) Good Lovin' really brought something unexpected and unique to the contest which I really appreciate... wouldn't be a bad song to send to Eurovision at all, I just think it'd be a slight mistake considering the tough competition this year, but it would be pretty cool!

Well... lots of boring ballads and average songs... The overall quality just makes it easier for Sweden to do well, I guess... so that could be a positive to take from this years' selection. Although, there are a few gems in there by now and I think that if some more countries will bring their A-game the selection would be quite alright :) What do you think?

To be honest, while there are a few songs I like so far I only really love Italy, Hungary, Finland, Poland and Denmark so far. I think my favourite so far out of that bunch would probably be Hungary. I just hope for some more interesting songs or this years' just going to be one big sleepfest.

There seems to be more than one theory as to why Loreen didn't advance. To me the staging was somewhat distracting. Very cerebral with a lot of intense imagery to process.

my theory is that a) sweden didn't want to send her again b) sweden didn't want to send something that could get compared to 1944 c) sweden saw more mass appeal in songs like i can't go on, hold on, and etc. d) loreen wasn't the problem, it was her competition...

My personal favorite i Wiktoria. I find her very charming and i love her vocals and even if the song might not be the best from a technical standpoint it's the most enjoyable to me this year. Mariette and Alice are my 2nd and 3rd favorites. I feel like I'm the only one with this opinion but i actually don't like Statements that much. Love Loreen as an artist but I personally feel like statements sounds a bit to mumbley for my taste and the staging is defenitly not my favorite either. (I love when they do the flag pose though, Running in plae however looks so weird to me)

pekee_69 I actually think that it could've done well in eurovision, not to mention with the juries... but I hear there are tons of people in Sweden who voted for Anton just because they dislike Loreen is a person. It makes sense I guess, since this contest is hardly about the music anymore

What baffles me now is how could someone hate Loreen as a person..? I mean, of course I don't know her, but...she just looks like a genuinely good person? Regardless of this though, basing the judgement of a song ONLY on the opinion one has of the person is stupid, and Sweden has disappointed me hard.

Best top ever! I have to say I agree with almost the entire list, but I would rank Wiktoria a little bit higher. The reason Loreen didn't qualify directly to the finals was because of all the kids and younger generations. A lot of children probably found this song scary and weird. I found it disturbing in a very good way, but I know children who got genuinely scarred. I also think it's a song that you get attached to after a few listens which only makes it good that it came to andra chansen. I voted for it like crazy. Greetings from Lund, southern Sweden! :)

Hello. Thank you very much! And yes, I think Loreen's entry disappointed those who expected a second Euphoria-like track. This song has a greater musical depth and isn't as applicable to the mainstream audience. No shock that people dislike somgs with a style that's rather new to them. Loreen is simply amazing! Really hoping she will represent Sweden again this year. Also hoping Denmark will do better this year, even though DR doesn't put much effort in finding a good song. And I'm in love with the O'G3NE sisters from The Netherlands, their harmonies are as perfect as George MIchael's backing singers from his MTV Unplugged concert..

The Danish song is pretty decent this year compared to what they've sent during years of late, I can definitely see them at least reaching the final As for Netherlands, I'm rather impressed by their vocal collective as they accompany each other brilliantly. However, I personally haven't found a fondness from the song, it's quite a forgettable slow-burn to me at this time... maybe it'll grow after time :)

I feel the same way about them. It's not the most catchy song, but their harmonies are always on point, and they are usually even better live, so can't wait to see that. Yeah, I think Denmark will make the finals this time. I haven't really cared for any of our entries since "Fra Mols Til Skagen" in 1995. (same songwriter as the one who wrote "Only Teardrops"). Keeping my fingers crossed tonight for Loreen to go to the finals. And can't wait to see what Norway brings to the table next week. Still don't understand why Europe didn't appreciate "A Monster Like Me" as I did.. :)

Denmark is quite a tricky one, they frequently send decent stuff, but rarely anything great... off the top of my head I can recall the great tracks from 2000, 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2013, but otherwise they haven't really been that impressive and have also delivered some shameful joke acts (Drama Queen, Cliche Love Song) Norway are also a curious one... they had a phenomenal streak of class acts from 2013-2015 with one incredible track after another (Silent Storm and A Monster Like Me being among the most beautiful ballads I've seen in the contest), however, this years' selection is really weak in my opinion... the only track that even stands out to me are that rock band which will probably not win since everyone tries to follow the mainstream

I find this a very good ranking, if I look at the general picture it comes pretty close to mine I think, with some exceptions...like, Ingrosso is way too high for me, I believe Roger should have gone through instead of him, and Wiktoria is my second (idk I just really love her voice) :" But omg I agree soo much on Loreen. What she did was beyond words, beyond thought, and even beyond these stupid music competitions. She's probably too much for them anyway. I don't know what Swedes had in mind, but they disappointed me hard, and right now I feel like they don't really deserve her. I think she can be proud of herself in any case, ex Eurovision contestants and winners don't often get to make such epic comebacks. And she did. Btw, I also love Mariette and JHF and Aninia. Now that Loreen is gone, it's one between them and Wiktoria for me. Hope I won't be disappointed again...

It was truly a shame to see her get knocked out of this since I thought she could put up a great "statement" in Eurovision (sorry, I couldn't resist) with a song that really tries to go the extra mile and switch things up in such a masterful way... Other countries have done it before, but I can't recall Sweden ever doing something like it, and after seeing her getting knocked out, I think we never will see it occurring. But who knows, Jon Henrik is still in the final, and if he takes it home I kind of have to take back my comment. I'd love for him to win since at least we can show up in Eurovision with the sign of diversity and something unique. And although I would've preferred Loreen, Jon is a decent replacement! It wouldn't be the end of the world if anyone else wins it either, but I just feel like there were two songs this year that really captured the feeling of musical art, and it would be nice to see one of them represent us... Either way, as long as Lisa Ajax doesn't win, I think I'll be okay...

Omg I hadn't understood you were Swedish...sorry if I came out a bit rude, I was just so angry the other day x'D It's just that Loreen card SO MUCH about her "statement", you could feel it in her interviews, and seeing her uniqueness being crushed like that by just another clone literally sent me out of myself... I fear Loreen is not replaceable, even if we merely stay on the level of the "impact" ^^ but Jon and Aninia would definitely be a decent substitute if Sweden really wanted to send something unique this year. They look and sound like they just came out of a fairytale. Also I'd pay to hear some Swedish in Eurovision again ahah you guys have such a beautiful language :"

For some reason I can also really see Mariette or Wiktoria doing well though, they wouldn't have the impact Loreen or even Jon would have, but if I look at their "whole package" I feel like they have their chances. I mean, Mariette has a nice song and plus she's such a cutiepie and the Eurofans love her (many are still disappointed she didn't win in 2015 - me being one of them xD). And Wiktoria, both her and her song are so...fresh. In a "heavy" year like this people would love her, and also she seems very very confident which doesn't hurt when it comes to creating yourself a "character" and to facing such a broad audience. So don't despair, I think you still have many chances to do extremely well. ;)

hahahahah you didn't offend me or anything, I'm just as upset about my country as most people are over what happened and also, it's quite common that we do well whatever we send... I mean, we finished 5th last year with just a radio-friendly track (and let's be honest, last year had tougher competition than this one), Mariette would be cool to see win, mostly because she's from my hometown hehe, but yes the song is very solid and could oppose some of the stronger entries this year. I'm still torn about Wiktoria, just not my thing at all... it bores me in some way, but I guess it'd stand out and be something slightly different from all the ballads, and she truly does have charisma which is always a plus. I seriously think we'll do quite well whoever we send (except Ove), we usually do, so... it's alright hehe, would've just been something special to send that amazing track by Loreen

Ahah yeah, Sweden is mostly safe every year xD I wasn't a fan of Frans last year, I have to be honest, but with him you ended up really, high, so this year you can probably do even better, as all the favourites to win Mello are even stronger...imo all of them could be very valid opposers to the rest of us It sure would have been special to see Loreen there again...I wasn't there in 2012 so I missed her moment of glory, I was really looking forward to finally see her there, not gonna lie :" but yeah...she said she wasn't there to win after all. I just hope she had calculated all the risks and that now she will go on doing her amazing thing :" But anyway she's been very very brave, even just to come back, let alone with something so daring. Sweden raised her well.

Loreen is so overrated. I try my best to like this song but i really don't like it even after listening to it 20 times. I hope that Mariette will win :)
