You are an excellent player but I think you missed the main point of the melody maker. That is to play standard melodies that have a major seventh in them. You can bend notes that are not supplied on the harmonica. I love this harmonica for playing jazz standards and popular tunes. This harmonica is also great for playing reggae music. This is really not for playing major blues. Of all the Lee Oskar harmonicas, I favor the melody maker and the natural minor harmonicas. The natural minor harmonicas can be used for minor blues playing. Although I can play minor blues in the first position with the melody maker.

The Melody Maker allows you to do something that is hard to do on a standard-tuned diatonic without a lot of bending, and that is to play two full octaves of a major scale -- which is great for playing traditional major-scale melodies, standards, etc. It's a very useful harp. However, admittedly, playing major scales in cross harp does take some getting used to. Here's a video that demonstrates the two-octave range: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqexoINmbc6Elac

I like the Melody Maker and use it quite often. I use it more often than the minor natural of LEE OSKAR. I have so far two MELODY MAKERS (G and D) and one natural minor. I have to admid I do not know why they produce the natural minor in every key but the MELODY MAKER in about 5 Keys. I could use them to play some standards I think. Here I play the Melody Maker in various positions I dream of jeannie (bezaubernde Jeannie) Harmonica Jump blues Harmonica Solo - music quiz I got the impression it is not often used. I wonder why. I like it very much!!! Any comments or statements about the MELODY MAKER? BTW I like your playing but maybe it does not fit your style. I play relative seldom the natural minor for instance.

The Lee Oscar melody maker now comes in other keys besides the original five. I just recently purchased from RockinRon’s Keys of F, E flat and B-flat. I agree with you on the issue of why there are so many natural minor harmonicas you can purchase.

By the way, I also love the melody maker. I also play the minor blues in the first position on the melody maker.

@@keelanp53 Unfortunately the Lee Oskar harmonicas do not last as long as the Hohners :-) thanks for the info.

@@keelanp53 That is true. But I have a Lee Oskar Blues harp and one by Hohner and the Hohner is much better in sound and playability. But The Melody Maker has a real good tuning and it is adding a lot to the harmonica if you are not a "master" of all positions :-)

Very hard for me to get used to blowing the 3r hole for a La note. It has become nature to me to draw for a La note!

Even Lee Oskar doesn't play anything I like on this Melody Maker. Doesn't matter that I think the harp stinks, we need people to do these vids so we know what to buy--and what not to buy. Thumbs up on video, thumbs down on that harp.
