Put the wax in a pantyhose before it melts and only then add the hot water to the pot to melt it. This way, the waste remains in the pantyhose and the wax remains in the pot without any residue. As soon as the wax has melted, you can slowly take out the pantyhose and let the wax run off. It is best to use 2 or 3 pantyhose to filter out as many of the smallest particles as possible. This also keeps the pots a little cleaner

You may try scooping the major junk off the top with a cheep strainer before pouring. Great video.

You can probably use the black junk For fire starters

Beekeepers call that black junk "slumgum"
@PowerTom2869 ай бұрын
I prefer to pour the wax with the junk in a pillow case from the 2nd hand store and after draining I place it between two boards and put pressure to it to get much more wax out of the sludge. Remaining wax in the pots are easy to melt with a hot air gun. Tom 😎

depending on how clean it comes, I sometimes melt and strain 2-3 times, no matter how long it takes, and I use an old fashioned paint scraper after it's hard. I made a solar melter, using an old window, an old hive box, a cake cooling rack and disposable roasting pan, and a disposable bread pan. You can find directions on internet. When I come home from beeyards, I drop whatever wax I've collected in the solar melter, and forget about it till next time. I think you'd like it, a sheet of paper towel on the cake rack under the wax filters it really well. Enjoy your bees. Western KS.

Yes, paint strainers do work well. I use them to strain honey as it goes into 5 gal bucket from extractor.

I've filtered wax through clean thin cotton fabric, like an old clean bed sheet. Yeah, it takes a while to go through the fabric, but clean as a whistle on the bottom, in one process.

I've seen folks use a paint filter in a bucket. But I saw one guy filter wax through Yoga Pants and got it perfectly clean on the first run.

Hey Blake - I think you need to go a bit finer on your straining if you want it to be clean enough for any decent usage - Paint filters work REALLY well! Coffee filters work ok.. but take forever and clog a bit.You'll always get the trash on one side, but you just scrape it off and keep going! :) Using a paint filter (the bag strainers) will make for *much* less trash. Check out DirtRooster's channel, he is the one I learned it from and it works *really* well - that, and consider investing in one of those huge rectangular roaster/crockpot type things (you can get them at Goodwill since you're not using them for food, it doesn't matter much). Heats the wax and no propane needed!

Blake, if you push the screen into the pot a ways you won't have spillover like you did. Mama poured hers through cheesecloth. Next thing candles Blake?
@daddykirbs4 жыл бұрын
I figured out to put the screen deeper after that first spill LOL. I don't know about candles. Perhaps if I end up with a surplus of wax.

I think straining with still smaller holes should be used twice before pouring in the water.

There is already wax on your frames. I only use that for my hives. How to make the flat wax, if you know what I mean? And what is the reason to melt wax on the wax? Excuse me for my ignorance
@3Beehivesto3004 жыл бұрын
I boil the sludge twice. Drain the wax off add more water boiler, drain again. When using the foam roller use really lite pressure and try not to put much wax in the bottom of the cells. It doesn’t do you any good down there. Try to get it to build up on the tips of the foundation.

You should filter at least 3-5 times and EACH TIME the filter hole used should get smaller until the last is 1 used is a cheese clothe or slightly larger..That will remove all trash and make beautiful wax. I used to do this in girl scouts to make tiki torches and porch candles..you can stil might try filtering what you scraped to use in porch candles..no waste..

Try looking on the channel Jeromr Bee Farm. He melts his wax in an old crock pot and filters it through a coffee filter on the final melting. it's worth a try.
