I love this man. One of the most grounded and humble musicians in the business. People occasionally take issue with some of the things he says, but that's what happens when you shoot straight -- your opinions will occasionally offend. The comment about people who listen to their own music being "creepy" is spot on. I knew a guy in a band who managed to cut an album years ago and he used to go around listening to the CD in his car all the time. He was creepy. So is Prince.

John Powell but isnt the point of creating music so that what you create is something you like and want to listen too?
@InsideBilderberg3 жыл бұрын
@@pointTv-fs1ow That´s why I do it, to make sounds and tracks I really like myself. If I don´t like listening to it or it sounds too much like something or somebody else I throw it away without hesitation.

@@InsideBilderberg of course you want to listen to your own works, otherwise you'll never learn to grow from them but patting yourself on the back and constantly going through an ego trip over your music is very pathetic, and that's the point he's trying to make here

Buzz is the best. Sharing a bit of his wisdom with the viewer is priceless.
@WarmothGuitarist11 жыл бұрын
The dissonant chords that Buzz plays help the following consonant chords to sound even more powerful, since, in nature, dissonance demands consonance. Adam Jones also uses the technique.
@metallicakixtotalass10 жыл бұрын
Hell, pretty much every great guitarist going back to Hendrix uses dissonance followed by consonance.
@Spectralhyena6 жыл бұрын
Yeah but I get what he's saying. Adam Jones is why I started playing guitar. It has a much bigger impact in the sphere of super hard rock. Especially with chords and not strings of notes.

Buzz's whole attitude really inspires me because all that matters to him is being you and making cool, fun, and weird ass riffs. A lot of people just try and overstuff music, but Buzz really has a great grasp on what sounds good. His whole bit about being having no mold or bounds making music and being a fan of your own songs is something everyone should take to heart while making music.

Whenever I'm feeling in a loop I strait up watch this video and then listen to the melvins because buzzo shows all the time that you can make something that sounds unique without it being so over complicated I feel a lot of times as modern guitar players we strive to make the craziest shit possible and that's not always fun the base of good music is fun because if you are having fun then you play it with passion and people gravitate towards that

i do the same thing with song writing. i started recording everything about 3 or 4 years ago. i have over 200 riffs recorded on 4 different cellphones ive went through over the years, and on my computer. i figure if i record everything that i like when i play it something good will come up eventually. don't only do serious songs. if i play a rif that sounds ridiculous and makes me laugh i record that too and work on it. who cares just have fun. i think thats what he's basically getting at

Great advice.Some time simple things are really the best but are overlooked cause they are obvious. I think Kurt Cobain said he would write songs by just sitting down in front of the TV and playing.Kind of creates a zen distraction to where you let creativity flow through you without interrupting it with thinking too much.

my problem is i make riffs that i love, try to find the next part to the song, end up making another riff i like that doesn't go with it, work on that one... the same things happens.. then i end up with 1000 parts that are awsome but dont go together and i just move on and loss track of them over time lol
@hking10092 жыл бұрын
I feel you I do the same thing. One thing I've been trying to do to fix that was taking the riff that I really like and then instead of trying to attach it to another awesome riff, just dial back a little bit and play something a little less busy or interesting to create some space. I feel like it highlights what makes the initial riff so cool when I make my way back to it. That way instead of feeling like every riff in the song has to be exciting it helps me view it as a piece of music instead of just a bunch of cool riffs stitched together. I'm still an amateur just wanted to share one thing I've been trying to do to keep myself from letting those ideas build up without developing them

Read the lyrics to any of the songs on 'Ozma'. They're all like that. I think they use words (sometimes, made-up words) because they just like the way that they sound in the song, even if they have no real meaning. Melvins & I have a few mutual friends & one of them once told me that their lyrics are heavily influenced by 'Jabberwocky': www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/42916/jabberwocky
