Beautifully modelled but some weird choices of vehicles, a Comet tank that didn't come into action until December 1944 side by side with a Crusader tank that had been retired in 1943 together with a sexton that was only used in the Western desert until Priests were introduced.

Sextons definitely went to Normandy. It's the Bishop that got phased out in favour of the Priest. Also I think I've seen the vehicle you're on about, and it's a Bishop not a Sexton. (bottom right hand corner at 3.45) valentine chassis with a big ol' box stuck on top of it.

@@cycorix4614 Hi, thanks for your kind comments. Yes, you like Ninny have spotted one of many inaccuracies, particularly on the early part of the layout, when I was just beginning to learn what was there on D-day, and what was not! I hope it didn't spoil your enjoyment too much. We some times discuss replacing them, but we have kind of got attached to them after all this time. 'Overlord' is still going strong, and we hope to be back out exhibiting as soon as the situation permits. we have just set up a Facebook page for the layout, so if you are interested, please visit. facebook.com/Overlord-Model-Railway-115342573210163 Regards, Chris Mead

@@briandavissr.6843 Brian, thanks for your kind comments. Apologies for the delay in replying. I take it you live 'across the pond'! Actually, I would not have been able to make the layout without help from people such as yourself who provided information and help. 2 key vessels on the layout are the LST & LCI, plans for both of which were given to me by members of their relevant veteran' associations. 'Overlord' is still going strong, and we hope to be back out exhibiting as soon as the situation permits. we have just set up a Facebook page for the layout, so if you are interested, please visit. facebook.com/Overlord-Model-Railway-115342573210163 Regards, Chris Mead

Hi there Chris. I saw your layout in Southend many years ago and for many years I have been building a much smaller layout as a tribute to my Dad's Corvettee K44 Wallflower. You are a true inspiration. I do have a question. What is the make of your figures as I have found it hard to not have soldiers who are not shooting or throwing grenades!. I would appreciate your help.

Hi Shirley, yes, finding soldiers doing the ordinary things in life can be a bit of a challenge. Most of the ones on the layout are the less active poses from various Airfix soldier collections. But there are more items available now. One good company is 'Sargeants Mess' sgtsmess.co.uk/product-category/figures/page/9/

Wonderfully atmospheric layout. Brilliant. What is the significance of the white berets many of the figures are wearing? I've not seen this before.

Hi, thanks for your kind comments. Most of those with white hats are the ship's crews and naval personnel. To be honest, I think a lot lot more should be plain black, but you live & learn. There are however a couple of army figures with white hats, and these are American Military Police (nicknamed 'Snowdrops, I was told). They are the equivalent of the British 'Redcaps'. They were a gift from a visitor to one of the shows who had seen it before, and kindly donated them to the layout. 'Overlord' is still going strong, and we hope to be back out exhibiting as soon as the situation permits. we have just set up a Facebook page for the layout, so if you are interested, please visit. facebook.com/Overlord-Model-Railway-115342573210163 Regards, Chris Mead
