I mean they have to shove their fingers up there to check how open your cervix is too. I had to have my cervix checked at every weekly checkup from 35 weeks until 39, bc I gave birth. was your doctor a female? I made sure mine was a female cuz there is absolutely no way I’d be comfortable enough to let a man check my cervix or anything like that. Another thing is - after I gave birth, at my 6 week PP checkup where I got the Mirena birth control put in my cervix. WORST IDEA EVERRR!! They have to stick a RULER in you to measure your cervix before putting it in and omg I thought I was going to die!! It hurt so fricken bad. I’m so glad I had my mommas hand to hold or I would have punched my poor doctor. Lol and the worst part was I could still feel the deep painful pressure in my lower stomach after I had already left from getting it. That feeling stayed for like an hour, or so. I’m suuuuuper scared to get it removed now, I’m not gonna lie.

I had it done at 41 1/2 weeks on a Monday and gave birth on Wednesday. I was warned it could be painful and might just cause cramps that don't actually start labour but, the goal was to avoid a hospital induction. I went into labor 14 hours after the membrane sweep which was nice because I was able to labor at home for a while before going to hospital. The membrane sweep wasn't necessarily painful I described it as having somebody stick their finger in the back of your throat and wiggling it. Not comfortable but not exactly painful either more weird. I would have it done again but, I don't understand why people are doing it before 40 weeks? I understand being pregnant sucks but, why rush the baby, they come when they're ready.

After having the cervical cerclage removed at 38 weeks my obgyn told me by 39 weeks if I haven’t went into labor on my own that I would be induced and I was positive for group b strep and I had to have an i.v. full of antibiotics pumped throughout my labor and delivery as well as taking antibiotics throughout the last trimester. Both of my children were born healthy with no issues before 40 weeks. Sometimes it can’t be delayed 🤷🏽♀️

This is a good point, but it’s not only the care provider that can affect how it feels. The position of your cervix has a big role in this as well. If your cervix is in a posterior position it will most likely be more uncomfortable than if you have a cervix in the anterior position.

Started labor for my last 2 labors and helped me avoid inductions! I was 38+5 weeks for one and 37+1 for the other. After the sweeps, labor started 12 hours after the first and around 26 hours after the second. I went on to have pain med free births and avoided medical inductions with them. Thankfully, while mildly uncomfortable, I do not find them painful, but I was dilated to a 3 and pretty effaced both times when done so my body just needed a little push in both cases. Obviously I guess, otherwise the sweeps would not have been successful. I know they aren’t for everyone, but I have really positive experiences with them. ❤

The last little statement 'many people do find it painful' is not doing the actual pain level justice. My doctor attempted it but having a red hot poker shoved up there and stirred around in an effort to remove the actual cervix would not have been any more painful. I had to stop him because there was just no moving forward with that level of pain. I have broken bones before, been in a car accident, had surgeries and have never even been close to passing out from pain. This did it. I feel like it was invented by a man who may or may not have hated women. I'm joking, but it was like being assaulted when you're already in a ton of pain. Wow.

It can really vary depending upon the position of your cervix. If your cervix is posterior (pointed to the back which is typical in pregnancy before labor begins) then it can be quite intense. If the cervix has moved towards the front it can be less painful. More in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2aknZ6dituDkLs

I absolutely do not recommend any induction method it put you and your baby at rush and you will get so much pain

I got this done on Wednesday and later that night I had a bloody show. I’ve contracting all day and night yesterday and today. Went to the hospital to see if I was in labor but no signs of dilation and still 2 cm 🥲
