@@AdGarden7438 same kanji 甘い. It isn't too strange. It is a bit indulgent to eat sweets. And sweets don't make a meal, so it isn't sufficient. Giving someone sweets is 'treating' them .... interestingly this form of giving in English too is even 'treat' like candy. Sweetness being the opposite of a 'meat and potatoes' sort of attitude is something shared in both languages.... just slightly different.
