Re: dirt farming, you can automate that infinitely. Need to chain a few farms together, but it's definitely doable. Stone -> moss -> podzol (grow a tall spruce tree, perhaps from a tree farm) -> TNT blast chamber = dirt

No, it's a visual glitch. The slab that was touching the border gets pushed outside of the border but visual changes don't render outside of the border so it still shows the slab inside of the border even though it's not there.
