Fun thing to tell you about the jokes about sweeden. Its common to nordic countries to make fun or tease each other. Popular ones are Danish speak potato in their mouth Finns are always drunk ect ect. But for example if swede and a finn meat in USA it feels like you just met your country men. If non nordic country makes fun of for example sweden it might be offencife for a Finn or Norwegian cuz cultulary nordics are so similar. Its like sisters and brothers fighting. When someone outside is bullying they all unite with their sibling countries and say hey! only i have a right to bully my siblings. You living in Finland and getting some nordic culture in your vains propably grants you the right to tease nordics also :)

I think that Russian Siberia is an even colder place than Finland. That claim about Finland being even colder than Russia is probably based on the historically cold period that prevailed during the Winter War, when the coldest temperature was measured as low as -40°C. They were such harsh conditions that even for the Russians, it already exceeded the limit of endurance.

Russia is so big, they have very cold areas and much warmer areas. Siberia is very cold. Soldiers against finland were mostly from warmer areas than Finland. Moskow is much much more south than even southern most point of finland.

There are places in Siberia that get down to -80°C so, yeah, RUssia is colder, but the thing is we handle ourselves better in the winter conditions. Suck it Russia! Slava Ukraini!

@@House_of_Caine Dude. Sure that temperature is 80 degrees but it's in Fehrenheit. Not celsius. The coldest inhabitated place on earth is Yakutsk, Russia and right now it's the coldest winter there in decades and the temperature has dropped down to -63C.

The 7:19 one could theoretically be a reference to the fact that during Winter War, some Finnish soldiers actually managed to stop Soviet tanks by rushing in at the right moment and sticking a birch log into their tracks. Heck, there's even a birch log among the anti-armor weapons -section in the armour museum of Hattula, if I remember correctly.

In Yakutia region in Russian siberia they have measured temperatures down to like -71c. Its literaly the coldest inhabited region in the world. But i gues the soldiers they sent to Finland during the war where not from there lol. Btw i used to have the Nokia 3310 and i think i had that case on it. It was for hanging it on your belt not so much for protecting it. 😁

The feel of cold is relative... Once you pass -10 or colder it dries up, and does not feel as cold. Coldest weather is just around freezing due to humidity!

Just got around to watching your vids. Thanks for them! You might have gotten a proper answer to this already, but when it comes to the temperature between Russia and Finland, Russia can get a lot colder. Even Moscow sometimes hits -50c. That is due to the continental weather that they have whereas Finland has the Baltic sea and the Gulf stream keeping things ''fairly warm''. Also when it came to the winter war, the soviets sent a lot of troops from their southern parts such as Bulgaria without any proper winter equipment. So it wasn't only the Russians, it was the Soviet Union. The Finns were out there mainly with their own supplementary clothes as well, but unsurprisingly knew how to handle it compared to soldiers coming from the southern reaches of Soviet Union who were not helped by the commanders thinking that they have too many resources (such as people from distant places of the union) to flush Finns out.

The coldest I've ever experienced in Finland was January 1985 when temps dropped just below -50 deg Celsius (-50.2 or something like that). It was a bit chilly, I'll have to admit, but not actually that much more chilly than any other usual winter in Finland. Temps below -40 in Lapland are not uncommon at all. Happens practically every winter. But Finland is not colder than russia in winter. The coldest continuously habited village is in russia, and there temps drop below -70 quite often during winter months.

There’s a habited place in Siberia where the temperatures hit -70’s yearly. During Winter war Finland had extremely harsh winter and USSR soldiers didn’t have winter gear, so in the essence you could say it was colder in Finland for them.

Yeah Russia can get colder but Russia has very Southern/warm areas too. And only a very small percentage of Russians live Southern than Finland or in the coldest areas.

However - the winter of 1939-1940 was EXTREMELY cold - exceptionally cold a winter, especially in Finland. It's the weather spirits you know - winks.

I remember my grandma said if it goes below -50 was called as an wolf winter. But sometimes in the summers Finland can get so hot specially in karelia parts after the war there was an malaria outbreak in the 1930-40. I remember when I was visiting Imatra (close to the Russian broder) it was like over 40c+. It comes and goes, but winters was much harsher what it was today.

Some observations and tips. First of all as spoken language here no-one uses word negative as speaking of the temperatures outside. We say minus four if it is -4 degrees. Or if someone ask at winter time how cold it is (paljonko on pakkasta) you dont have to even say minus becouse everyone knows here that pakkanen is going to to be at the negative scale. So don´t wonder if someone says twentyseven in the middle of the winter when there is -27 outside. And no we ain´t colder than Russia by winter. There are even cities in russia where the temperatures might go even -70 and that is Russian versio of hell 😂. There are some interesting videos in youtube if you just search "Coldest city in Russia". There it is very normal to have -50 at the middle of the winter. In that weapon meme finnish "saunavihta" means that some years ago we had world championship tournament where russian man actualy got killed in sauna. He died becouse hes body couldn´t handle the heat anymore. That is the reason why they stopped having those competitions.

Siperia is much colder place than Finland. During Winter war troops of Russia have no proper clothes and no skies or experience of winter war. And Stalin had executed the best officers during the purges, so in a way Stalin helped Finland. This is quite sad, but Russians 44. Divison were from Ukraina and we weren't very nice or treated them well.

So siberia gets colder than finland because it's inland and the gulf stream doesn't reach it. I think they recorded the coldest temperature record somewhere in siberia. BUT and it's a big but, like somewhere along the lines of 90% of russians live more south than the southernmost point of Finland. So 'most' russians are not used to cold like finns are.
