The Olympic lifeguards are there because swimmers will literally swim themselves to death. It’s actually happened several times, not just at the Olympic level. Moderately elite swimmers have exceptional pain and fatigue tolerance, due to the fact that they train themselves to work at peak performance with as little oxygen as possible. Sometimes, your body shuts down, and you just kinda drown. Still a super fun sport though!

The over-enthusiasm in other channels sounds fake and annoying the commentary on each meme makes me wanna skip 5 seconds (it annoys me most of the time tho which makes vaazkl's comments actually fun since it happens rarely). but to each their own.

Tbh no, his voice now sounds more relaxed and less forced like he actually cares about the content compared to his older voice. And it also differentiates him from most other commentary channels that use a highly enthusiastic voice jus to get more viewer attention.

You'd still need lifeguards in case an Olympic swimmer had a heart attack or broke their leg or something, or just became too exhausted to finish the lap. Those athletes push themselves insanely hard, I have to imagine there'd be medical emergencies to worry about.

I believe the life guards are there if a swimmer passes out during a race. You see how fast they go, how much energy would that need. Especially 100 or short course 50. The Turning of the tumble turn might make blood rush to the he and also manu short coarse 100 with 3 tumble turns will make them will dizzy. But what do I know!
