Kingdom Hearts absolutely tries to be stupid on purpose sometimes, especially with Donald and Goofy being on screen with fucking SEPHIROTH. The devs know exactly how absurd it is and play into it pretty often. The thing that keeps all the (good) Kingdom Hearts games awesome throughout is the gameplay, which is why Kingdom Hearts 2 (specifically the Final Mix edition) remains the most well renowned game in the series, since it continues to have the strongest combat in the series, with only the DLC fights in KH3 being on par with it.

I'm just not a huge fan of the whole "afterlife" idea, it hurts the series' already wacky world building. I could also care less for Kairi, but I'm sure you've heard enough of that at this point.
