Former Macdonalds employees here and we don't put butter on the biscuits. They are also frozen and heated in an oven they pre made with butter in them but after they send so long in the warming drawers the butter gets dried out I learned this because I was told I could have a biscuit because it was going to get tossed when we switched to lunch, it was a fresh biscuit just got put in the warming drawer and it tasted buttery slightly and It clicked. Most places don't make fresh biscuits a lot and will use all their old ones before making new ones
