Britain may have been known as such in early BC although is debated. However we do know that the Romans called it Britannia in late BC which translates to Britain. Basically in short it goes like this. Kingdom of England (England) > Kingdom of England and Wales (England and Wales) > Kingdom of Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) > United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland) > (Ireland independence) > United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
