Thank you for sharing we also do IEW and I feel there needs to be more literature so this is a great option!

@JanelleKnutson so do I have to get the novel from memoria? Or can I purchase a hardback? I prefer collecting hardback classics

So if I’m understanding, the guides do go over literary devices, not just vocab and comprehension. But the guides do not teach the student to decider the authors world view?

I’m actually trying to get through this book for the third time as we speak 😂 I’d always get bored and stop about 1/3 way through. I now realized it gets better the farther into the book I read and I am now almost finished with it. My son would never be able to read this, but I’m hoping my girls will in 11th or 12th grade. There is so much advanced vocabulary in this book. It’s hard to imagine they used to speak so eloquently back in the day! It makes me realize how dumbed down our society has become. So many people would never be able to read and understand this book along with many other classics.

Very true! Classics make me realize how poor my own vocabulary is! My daughter found it easier to read through the book with the guide as it helped clarify things. And of course we watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice series when she finished. ☺️
