I have never actually been to a convention but I can tell you that if I ever get a chance to it will definitely be GaryCon. Thank you for the video Captain.

I haven't been to GaryCon myself, but I've been to several cons nearby me in the Bay Area. Super fun to play with a bunch of new people. If you're worried about the price, check and see if they offer any discounts or even free admission to GMs. My two local cons give free weekend passes AND complimentary parking if you GM just a couple games. If you've never GMd at a con before, don't worry about that either! When I GMd my very first game, they gave me all the material I would need to run the game, AND some cool swag as an additional thank you -- a unique character boon for organized play, a nifty GM screen, and a character folio. Was super cool.

I've worked many years in the entertainment industry, big shows and events... I'd drop any of those in an instant, to check out Gary Con... the true "Mecca" of the imagination. Top vid!

2019, I was thinking of organizing a trip in the future to go to Gary Con, to visit the sights, but Sadly coming from Australia in this new world may never ever happen. It looks like an awesome event. Thank you.

We who live in Australia can go to GaryCon eventually. The Black Death and the Spanish Flu didn’t last forever, and neither will COVID-19.

My family and I were there as well! You and I did not get the chance to meet, but we came close! Danny (from your Rats game) played in my Barrowmaze game the day before, as Brock, the nearly superhuman 3rd Level Dwarf! I met Lou as well. He was very congenial, even performing a fun little magic trick for my 8 year old son. GaryCon XIV was an unforgettable experience, and I recommend anyone who can manage it to attend at some point in their gaming lives. Thanks for all your hard work!

One day I hope to attend. In the meantime I want to thank you for the great content! You’re opening music, reviews and all-around commentary pull at the nostalgic part of my heart. Greatly appreciate it!

In one episode of SnarfQuest, they find some maps. One map is such a large continental scale that it doesn't mean anything to them, as travel is not easy and they were not taught these maps in school. A smaller-scale map is more familiar. But the glimpse of the continent seems to show a Europe-like coastline, they are on an Iberian-like peninsula, and the town where Zeetvahs originate is called Zeetville (later Seville??)

Man, I remember the first time I saw Zocchi's dice back in the day. I couldn't believe how sharp the angles were compared to original dice. I still have nearly all mice dice from back then and hundreds more now. Good memories.

I was there. Was my first convention. Word of advice to those who have never been to one: do not volunteer to run 16 hours of games and three games you've never played before. At the same time, book up your schedule because there is only so much hanging out you can do and there weren't all that many pick-up games that I saw.

Green With Envy. Just couldn't make it out there this year, been attending since 2017 dr. Through the virtual years... Etc. Such a wonderful Vibe very very different to so many other conventions, sadly the divide in the gygax Family itself meant that there was some weirdness happening between that and the other convention that I'm sure is not being named across town... Hopefully you attended both, no need to take up sides and someone else's family rivalry. I believe the new Star Frontiers was launched at said other event? The original was quite a huge amount of summertime fun for me back in 1983 or so. Of course I've not watched this whole video yet for commenting, so it's time to get back to it. Osr represent

@@captcorajus I hear you, you know the other con. TSR con? I forget what it is they are calling it was just in town they're not too far away from the old family house I think. I've only navigated the town once or twice. Mostly trying to get to the liquor store in time enough to get back to the gaming before they stop selling beer. Weirdness on the East Coast... Anywho, yeah most events are so packed with great stuff that I sign up for it's like trying to navigate a quick changeover add an airport in between flights. Constantly hauling ass to the next game.

10:26 Low-impact dice, high-impact dice...today's metal dice are Deep Impact dice, and the tables are finally starting to lose the fight. Not to be rolled on your buddy's wife's original Colonial furniture!

I'm not a fan of metallic dice. I don't think the rolling action is that exciting and they just feel weird.

Dang I would love to go this... I was all set to do the "big one" a year or so ago before Covid ruined it in many ways but in hindsight, I'm quite confident that I would be way more at home at this CON. I'll have to try and look for this next year.

I would love to go to Gary Con!!! I'll have to check the date for Gary Con 2023. I think it would be a blast. I've really been craving playing some BECMI D&D for some reason. Old school AD&D is going to be picked back up if WotC keeps getting stupid and woke like they have been. I have not picked up a book since the new dragon book and skipped out and all of the latest adventure books and the silly Scooby Doo version of Strahd.

I would have gone, but I was under the impression that masks were required, I know masks ruined GenCon last year, so I figured I'd skip Gary Con this year, but from the looks of it very few folks were actually wearing masks...
@anthonylovern79942 жыл бұрын
masks were required in all of the resorts indoor areas, people only really took them off to eat or take pictures.
@captcorajus2 жыл бұрын
My personal experience was that it was hit or miss. Quite a few people were walking around without masks on, while others were. Practically, the mandate didn't seem enforceable, and for me personally due to my hearing loss, which makes voices muddled under regular circumstance and currently suffering a broken rib.... making loud talking difficult... it was a difficult balance to maintain. My feelings are that the masks were a bit of overkill and I do favor masks. The con did its due diligence in requiring that everyone was vaccinated. Practically, in the future it should be optional. Currently in Maryland we have a vaccination rate of 95%, with only 133 total hospitalizations. The vaccine seems to be doing what its suppose to do. I think that's about all one can expect at this time.
