@@saritashukla3576 I personally disagree. Both movies had a switchup in atmospere around (or exactly at) the halfway point but the first part of parasite was more enjoyable to me than it was in Memories of Murder. It seemed more fleshed out, more fluent to me. Memmories of Murders first half or so seemed almost too whimsical to me, especially when its about a really serious situation. **Had originally thought this might've been because the korean police department was notoriously incompetent due to various reasons , but I only knew about that through the raincoat killer case that was around the time this movie came and and after. So I thought maybe not. According to few in the comments it was based around another case that fits the "incompetent detective/police" theme. So its even more up to subjective taste. Ofc this is just up to taste and both movies are amazing.

In the movie, Lee Choon-jae was sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting and killing his sister-in-law in 1994, and DNA from evidence from the fifth (1987), seventh (1988), and ninth (1990), which were unresolved serial murders, was found to be the same as Lee Choon-jae's DNA in 2019.

The point of this film is not who the culprit is. The core theme of this film is 'Why couldn't we catch the criminal at that time?' to be. And director Bong Joon-ho concluded that it was because of the 'age of incompetence'. In the 1980s, Korea was a society dominated by a military dictatorship. Therefore, there are many metaphors in this film that only Koreans can understand. Only by knowing the historical background and historical context can you discover the real meaning. For example, in the dialogue in the movie, there is a metaphor about a bald man hiding in a temple. This is actually a metaphor for the bald dictator Chun Doo-hwan, who hid in the temple to escape the 1987 Revolution.

The movie begins with a boy catching grasshoppers around the crime scene. And from afar, detective Park Duman rides a cultivator and starts approaching the crime scene. Then, the boy acts mysteriously to hide the grasshoppers he caught behind his back. It is not a coincidence. The grasshopper the boy caught and hid from others is sitting on the victim's body. It's like evidence left behind by a criminal at the scene of a crime. If so, does this mean that the grasshopper boy is the culprit who harmed the victim? Of course not. Instead, the film very intentionally expands the culprit that the boy has. Directly towards Duman. Same short sports hair, same plaid shirt. Even the words and actions of the two are identical. As such, the film intentionally matches the characters of the Grasshopper Boy and Duman. To give a hint of what Duman will do later on. Duman, who appeared in the movie with the suspicion of the criminal, ruined the investigation by manipulating the case and insisted on an unfounded investigation method that could be known by looking at the eyes, but failed to prevent another victim from coming out. And the most crucial part is that the last victim in the film is depicted as being murdered during a nighttime civil defense exercise conducted by the military regime. A nighttime civil defense drill made it easy for criminals to commit crimes in the dark because no one was able to get out of the house. In this way, the public power of the state, the police officer, is portrayed as contributing to the killing of citizens rather than protecting them. As if they were accomplices in this murder play. Of course, the real culprit of the Hwaseong serial murder case certainly exists. However, what the movie borrowed from a true story and wanted to show us again would be the dark side of the military regime that drove innocent citizens to death as well as the brutal criminal acts. After this dark age has come to an end, Duman, who has quit his detective career, leads a normal family life. Then, the memories of the past come to mind and walks down that old road again. Then he hears a few words from a girl he meets. She said the culprit came back here because he remembered what he had done. And he looks normal. Where is the culprit that the girl is describing now? Duman came back to the scene because he remembered what he did. And don't you think Duman, who looks very normal, knows? Who is reminiscing about the murders of that time? Wouldn't they be living together around us in a very normal way? I translated some korean article.

He was serving a sentence in prison for another crime after 36 years. By confessing, he was eventually caught. Four other cases were also identified. It turns out that even an elementary school student was raped and murdered. However, the statute of limitations has expired and there is no longer any punishment for murder. We have no choice but to monitor him as soon as he is released. It looks like a young criminal from a real movie. At the time, the police knew that the culprit was already the culprit in the scene in the movie.

I love your reaction. 🙏👍 You watched this without useless commenting throughout running time unlike other channels, so I played this like ASMR while working now, Actually twice lol. It’s a shameful past as me korean, In 1980s, police often manipulated evidence and resorted to violence while interrogating suspects. I think this movie showed incompetent policers at that time in south korea. It might be a little different but I like american gansters(2007) because this film also deals with police and based on real.

This movie was based on a true story. The identify of the perpetrator was found out after the release of the movie. The sequence of events which unfolded is so crazy it is mind blogging. Also, some people drew similarities between this move and Zodiac (starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo. But Memories of Murder came out earlier in 2003 four years earlier.

Adore this film. Haunting final image at the end - breaking that fourth wall, staring at you, the viewer, an ordinary person, just like the killer. Also, if you're going to watch Oldboy - and I hope you can find it - I highly suggest watching the full 'Revenge Trilogy' by Park Chan-wook: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance; Oldboy; Lady Vengeance. An absolutely wild and gorgeous trilogy. Once regarded as 'sadistic cinema' upon release. Far from it. Violent at times, sure, but each film redeems itself in many ways, and I think you'll understand why upon watching. I don't want to give too much away. Great reaction as always though, mate. Love from across the pond (already missing the Saul reactions haha).

So the semen in the movie is from the copycat unfortunately. This means that the last suspect from the movie is the real killer. Anyway the killer was identified a couple years ago. Memories of Murderer Ex-president Jun Doo hwan kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZKpeoNrac95rq8
