Congrats! I think you made the right choice to opt for the 3/4 ton truck with the smaller of the two campers. Considering the dry weight of each camper and the payload rating of the truck (see yellow sticker in door jam) you have a lot more wiggle-room to add additional weight to your rig (e.g. people, pets, gear, supplies, food, water, etc). The larger of the two campers would likely require some compromises to be safe driving in the mountains. Get it fully loaded and then weigh the rig on a CAT scale to make sure the axle weights are below the max ratings. Best wishes to you both! Keep up the good work on the channel. Looking forward to following along.

Thank you! We totally agree! We're so happy we went with the smaller one. It fits perfectly in our truck and driving with it is like it's not even there. We love it so far! Thanks for watching and following along.

Thanks for the detail on that camper. I watched one of your more recent videos and really liked the size on that truck (I have the same make and model). So I went back and found this video figuring I could find some detail on it 😅.

How is your Scout holding up? I’ve been looking at possibly getting one for my Tundra but have seen some leak issues along with some fit and finish issues. Don’t know if that’s the norm or not though.

@@JeanieMarie I'm over in MD/VA and doing full time. Have you seen any good winter truck camper skirting and ways to keep fresh water from freezing outside? I saw your video where the lines froze inside but that's due to little heat getting inside that area, right? thanks!

@T G We don't have any skirting from the outside. It only happens when we are driving since we don't have the heat going when we drive. As soon as we turn the heat on, they defrost.

Congratulations! My wife and I just subscribed to your channel over the weekend. We live in Indiana and like to goto Colorado to hike, backpack and explore. We have had our truck camper on order since the first of December, hoping to get it soon. Do you guys have an idea of what truck camper you wanted before you went and looked? Thanks for all of your videos on exploring Colorado!
@JeanieMarie
@JeanieMarie 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes, we did have truck campers narrowed down. We wanted it short so it didnt hang over the truck bed and lightweight which there are aren't many. We looked at Travel Lite (didn't like, very cheap feeling) and we wanted to see an Adventurer but we couldnt find any anywhere close to us. The closeset was in Idaho! We did a ton of research for weeks! So when we found the Palomino dealer near us we were happy because they also had short and light campers. What kind of truck camper did you get?
@exploringquests
@exploringquests 2 жыл бұрын
@@JeanieMarie That’s Awesome! I figured you guys had done your research! Me too! We are getting a Scout Kenai. We also wanted a light hard side camper. We like the simplicity and how modular it is. The Kenai is the biggest of the 3 models that Scout makes. It has a cassette toilet and a place to shower, which we wanted. I was also curious to what the payload on your truck is and why you chose a 6.5 foot bed over an 8 foot bed. I’m still deciding which truck to get. Trying to decide on length and a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Trying to balance a good payload with good maneuverability. It’s been a battle in my mind for months now. Lol I was just curious to the thought process you guys had and what made you choose what you did. Thanks for the reply!
@JeanieMarie
@JeanieMarie 2 жыл бұрын
@@exploringquests Awesome! That's wonderful! And yes, totally agree about having a nice toilet and shower area - that was a must for us too. We used ours for the first time this past weekend and it was so nice to use the toilet and have a hot shower! As for our truck, once we narrowed down the size of campers we wanted, we then narrowed down our truck size. We didn't want a ton of overhang on our truck bed so that's why we opted for the 6.5ft bed. With the tailgate down the camper is almost level with the tailgate (just a few inches shorter) so it's a perfect fit. And it works well with the stairs. Our camper weight is 1870lb and with our 3/4 ton truck, we can't even feel it back there. We've gotten up to speeds of 75mph with it - drives and rides like a dream. And we really didn't want to get into a bigger truck if we didn't need to - as that's just more $$, more gas $$ and even harder to park. And we don't ever plan on pulling a boat or trailer behind it -- I know that's popular. So if you plan on doing that, then I would think bigger is better. Basically, we made our decisions based on keeping our camper and truck as small as we could with the exception of still making sure we checked off all the things we wanted in a camper and truck. I truly feel this was the perfect fit for us. I have a full camper tour coming next week where I dive deep into our truck, all the upgrades we made on the suspension, our tie downs, and the interior modifications we made. You'll see what I'm talking about as for the length of the truck with the camper on it. So stay tuned for that video! Excited for you guys to get your Scout! Hopefully, it comes soon, so you can hit the road!

@@JeanieMarie That’s what it’s all about! Getting the perfect setup for yourself! It does look like a great setup! I can’t wait to see you tour. I figured if I went with the 3/4 ton I would upgrade the suspension as well. Can’t wait to see what you guys did! I saw in your first video where your camper ended on the tailgate. That is a perfect length for the ladder setup! So excited for you guys, and can’t wait to follow along on your adventures and being envious for a few months! Lol

Hi! After watching your videos a few months ago, I decided to buy an SUV before the end of the year to make my SUV camper…after using it for so long time and selling your Jeep Grand Cherokee, what do you think were the worst cons of the Jeep to make a camper? Thanks for your help!
@JeanieMarie
@JeanieMarie 2 жыл бұрын
We enjoyed our SUV camping but we always knew we would eventually upgrade into something a little more roomier. Cons for us: space in bed (we went from slightly over a twin to almost a king bed), staying warm when the weather would drop at night in the mountains..its nice having heat, having a place to go when it rains and being able to cook when it rains, and when it gets dark early in the fall/winter we have space to sit and do things as we can't go to bed when it's 5pm. Those were our biggest reasons for this upgrade. We knew it was time for us to make the change. We learned alot from SUV Camping and that ultimately made our decision in a truck camper.
