Memorizing Essential Notes - Bass Uke Mini Course Part 8

In this lesson we are memorizing the letter names of some essential notes that you need to know to jam with guitarists, ukulele players, and piano players alike. We only need to memorize less than 15 notes to understand how to find the rest.

Great Lesson. You are really a Natural (See what I did there? LOL (even though you didn't talk about naturals)), You definitely weren't flat (see what I also did there? am I on a G string arpeggio or what LOL?), and I see why you focused on the sharps, one thing at a time makes things easier to learn in all seriousness. For me; how I remember that there is no E# or Fb and that there is no Cb or B#; is because that is where the black keys are missing on a keyboard/piano. As far as the rest, you can count the frets all you want, but if you know what string you are starting on, E/A/D/G, and you know what note you need to play, then you can figure out the fretboard easily. This is a good way to memorize not just note names but to memorize your fretboard. No matter what kind of Bass you are using (Fretless excluded though as that is a different matter I think LOL.) That way you don't look like a Bass Idiot staring at your Fretboard fumbling around for the right frets/notes to play. That doesn't mean you can't look at your fretting hand every so often, but there is a difference in my opinion. LOL. Again, Good Lesson, and can't wait till the next one in this series. Cheers 😀

Your humor is quite sharp! I'll make a note to keep up with these puns! I think a system of finding the rest of the notes is just as useful as memorizing them for sure. I feel like knowing how to find octaves in different places helps a lot, too. Maybe I can include things like that in a "where to go from here" note at the end of the course. Up next is basic rhythm (quarter, half, and whole notes + rests), and then the last lesson will tie all this into playing a simple bass line over a basic chord progression. My only regret on this course so far is to wait until lesson 9 to introduce the most important thing for a bassist: rhythm!
