This is my character Melanie's problem exactly. She claims to be a highschooler with a mom, but when the fortune teller tries to view her past, the entire timeline before her appearance (3 years ago) is blank. Her mom Melody is in the same situation, as she can't recall when she was born, or when she gave birth to Melanie. They don't have amnesia, they just spawned out of nowhere, with no creator and no backstory. Even in the infinite other dimensions, no such family exists. This anomaly allows Melanie to change her appearance and powers at will. Jumping to alternate dimensions may cause her body to change its energy to that of the current verse automatically. She however cannot change powers off panel, and can't use any that erase space, time or souls. A sword wielding traveller named Cello befriends her along the way, but had her memories scrambled as well in an incident, leading to them travelling together and slaying giant monsters.

Sounds like a combination of PTSD and amnesia. But, I have heard from my favorite life coach that it is best to wait before adding labels to ourselves because we need to remember that it is important to process our feelings. It is tempting to skip that step and close the process of feelings when we can label something and it isn’t the scary unknown anymore. You are still uniquely you and your feelings and prospective matters. Just know you are not alone. I have PTSD and I still have stuff I can’t remember, but I do remember my memory cutting off and turning on very suddenly during a traumatic event in my past. I am still processing it and should probably vent to an understanding friend or therapist soon… Therapy costs soooo much know days and the cost of having a roof over my head also costs a lot. I’m creative and will find a way to live my best life though! I will be okay. If you want to remember sooner, listen to your symptoms. Does anything trigger a strong response from you and you can’t remember why? PTSD memories can come back at any time from any stimulus. Smells, tastes, a conversation you overheard in a crowd, stress, music. If you get stuck in a strong memory, that is called a flashback. So as to not have a panic attack during a flashback, learn how to ground yourself. During a panic attack, we usually get lost in our minds. So, grounding looks like engaging with the physical world, taking deep breaths in and out. Square breathing helps (google it). Holding something cold, blowing cold air on your face. Something to break you out of the trance of being panicked. But… sometimes the panic attack is too strong. I was stuck hyperventilating and crying to the point that my diaphragm couldn’t support my upper body and breathing was difficult. My whole being was shaking, especially my legs. I couldn’t talk or walk. My roommate in college saw me curled up on the floor and I couldn’t explain. It was so embarrassing. I just had to wait that one out. I survived. Breathing and repeating positive mantras I made for myself is my favorite ways to ground myself. Everyone is different though :)
