Hi Everybody! I’d like to introduce you to Troy.
Troy is a 1963 Buick Wildcat who originally started his life out in Arizona and at some point, made the journey to Vermont and eventually to our previous owner here in Ontario. All of this information can be found in the well documented pile of information that’s supplied with this vehicle. The car is equipped with a 401 Buick motor coupled to a 2 speed automatic transmission. The factory 4 barrel carburetor had been replaced with an Edelbrock carburetor but no worries the factory carb is still available and it comes with the car as well as a stock air cleaner, along with a number of other parts. The tires and battery are brand new and the brakes and wheel cylinders have been replaced as well. As you look through the pictures you may notice that the headliner is missing but the car also come with a new one that just needs to be installed. The previous owner also installed a set of aftermarket gauges which do a much better job of monitoring the voltage, oil pressure and engine temperature than the factory “idiot lights” do. You may also note a tach has been mounted on the center console, this is a factory tach and its still fully functional. Sticking with the dash we found that the speedo has a slight bounce to the needle at low speeds which likely just need some lubrication to correct. If it turns out to be something more complex no worries the car comes with a complete spare instrument cluster. As a result, we are unable to confirm the actual mileage on the car. All other controls appear to function normally except for the power antenna, radio and cruise control, which appears to have been disconnected when the aftermarket carburetor was installed. The turn signal switch also appears to be acting up as we can only get it to operate when turning right and not left. We’re attempting to source a switch to current this. The upholstery is in better than average shape given its age with only a few minor split seams. The drivers lower seat frame has an issue as the seat springs tend to be noisy when you exit the car. Probably the area that needs the most work is the drivers door. The armrest is quite badly cracked and would need recovering. It also appears that there must have been a wiring issue at some point because there has been a hole cut in the carpet about the size of the palm of your hand. I believe this was a result of a lazy mechanic not wanting to pull up the carpet as opposed to some critter making a meal out of it. The rear seat and carpet are in excellent shape. Going around the outside of the car there is no rust to be found and the underbody is in similar shape. All the chrome on the rockers is clean with the only main rust area being the tailpipe extensions. The hood has fallen victim to a few stone chips, and it appears that there was a cover or blanket left on the hood while this car was tucked away in the barn that has caused it to discolor. The good news is that there’s a chrome hood lip molding that comes with the car to replace the painted one. It also comes with 2 grille emblems. Buick purists will have probably already noticed that these are not the factory wheels for this car nor are they even real Buick center caps and they would be correct. We had to fabricate some center caps from some hubcap center caps from a mid-80’s Buick to fill the holes and while they are not perfect they are better than nothing. The engine, transmission and rear axle all operate very well there is some minor seepage from the engine gaskets but nothing dripping on the ground. An aftermarket windshield washer pump has been installed but it could easily be converted back with OE parts as required. Its also worth noting that the car has the original triangular concentrated washer fluid bottle under the hood from back in the day when GM sold concentrated washer fluid in these bottles which was mixed with regular water to produce windshield washer fluid. One other concern we want to be sure and mention, there is a whistling noise coming from the dash intermittently while sitting still with the brakes on. We believe this is coming from the power brake booster and we’re still looking into it.
With a few minor touches this car would be a really cool daily driver or you could spend a little more money over time and have a fairly valuable collector car. After reviewing all the pictures and videos if you would like any more details or information on Troy, please send us an E-mail at memorymotorsca@aol.com or give us a call at 905-537-3673.
Thanks for your time!
