This was the time when GM built the greatest cars and thy were also beautiful and powerful. It was the time of my youth and I still believe that no car built after 1972 was better. I own 6 Sixties GM cars, Chevies and Pontiacs and a friend of mine owns at least five Buicks. And those cars were extremely reliable. I remember I received a 67 Oldsmobile that had over 500 000 miles on the odometer and the engine did not have any rebuild. The Rivieras stand out as extremely beautiful vehicles. I never get bored looking at those elegant body lines.

@@jamesjohn834 I know a lot of people put it in with the other two I listed, but as cool as it is, I prefer the C3 Corvette over the first gen Toronados. Cool cars for sure, good looking, but for me not quite at the level of the Riviera or Eldorado.

I've always wanted a '65, the clamshells were art in motion! I wouldn't sneeze at a '69, either. I did manage to grab a beautiful unrusted '71 back in '83. The previous owner had disabled the air pump, tuned the Rochester 4bbl perfectly, added a shift kit to the TH400, buffed the front antiswaybar and substituted polyurethane front bushings to correct mushing. That was one of two cars I regret letting go of.

A 65 Buick Rivera GS with a 70 455 Stage 1 GS and a 4 speed (6 speed today), 3:73 rear, or a 67 GTO with a 70 455 HD, 4 speed, and 3:73 are my two dream cars. Choosing between them would be hard, but the Buick would probably win.

The first gen Rivieras were the best looking and most stylish of the breed. After '65 they shared the basic body with the Olds Tornado which gave it a bloated look. in '71 they debuted the boat tail platform and you either loved or hated it. After that they just kept getting worse in the styling department.

One minor design flaw is the antenna on the front fender. It just stands out like a sore thumb. It would look way cleaner on the rear fende like most cars had at the time. Coincidentally the black Rivi in this video they removed the front antenna when the car was restored - as most people do unless they're a purest.

The reason Buick was awarded the Riviera was because both Cadillac and Buick wanted to make design changes while the head of Buick was in synch with Bill Mitchel’s matchless design. The first generation Rivieras are some of the most well designed and powered car for the ages.

Am I unique person who takes it easy now what auto concern produces a car or a truck (Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, etc.)? I see only Mustang, F150, Corvette, Challenger, Ram, Impala, and others. So I think if GMC designed some new sport car to name it Pontiac TransAm or, let us say, created some big family wagon and called it Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, I wouldn't tell a word against it, because in the modern world it makes no difference who designed, and who will assemble a car. Only car/truck name tell it for itself.
