Excellent views of Robin Hood Bay village. Note that the tide goes out quite a way here and as well as the sands there are a lot of flat rockbeds with some of the best fossils to be found in the UK. It is not far from me and has always been a favourite place to go.

Visited on Boxing Day about 15 years ago. The weather was extremely grotty, low dark clouds, cold driving wind, "lumpy" rain and the sea very rough. The owner of a chippy at the bottom of the hill had paid two students home for Xmas to put the fryers on for a lunchtime service. We sheltered under the portico of the old lifeboat station eating bags of steaming chips, along with a good number of like minded couples. It was bloody marvellous.

Here’s an extract from an airbnb description which includes the gatepost mouse: Beckfield is home to one of the famous "spots" in the bay, when the house was purchased by the family of the current owners in 1938 a gate for the house was made for them by the famous Thompson of Kilburn. His mouse trademark is a favourite with visitors.

We've been here a few times, it's a magical little place. A pity that the tide was in because one of the best features is the smugglers tunnel which is beside the Bay Hotel, couldn't be seen. We stayed at The Bay Hotel in one of the sea view rooms,glorious views over the bay but if you are a light sleeper then these rooms may prove challenging. The tide came in through the night and the waves crashing against the walls kept us awake for a while but we just lay there laughing to ourselves! The video doesn't do the steep hill justice but again,that's part of the fun of this place. If you have never been here then go and visit it! plenty of cafes and a few pubs to keep you refreshed. The beach itself when the tide is out is expansive but can be rocky in places so plenty of rockpools to explore.
@MemorySeekers2 жыл бұрын

I visited this village in August 23 , some of the shops featured are no longer there, I guess covid finished some of them sadly, it is indeed a lovely place to visit, when the tide is out it’s a great place for kids to explore, lots of nooks and crannies to explore in the village, the small road down into the village from the car park , that you will have to walk down and return on is seriously steep 🥵but worth the effort

I used to frequently visit this enchanting little village, often renting the quirky white house opposite the Bay Hotel. Hi, I along with another guy installed pumps motors control gear and associated pipework under the floor of the coast guard museum you mention, back in 1964. It was bought by Leeds University as a marine laboratory. Our pumps drew sea water at high tide and pumped up to holding tanks in the roof space ,which then fed the various specimen tanks. We stayed 5 weeks at the top of the hill in the Grosvenor Hotel, just up from the laboratory a shop did fish and chips only on Wednesday lunchtimes. When we left in our mini van it couldn’t get up the hill on its own , I had to step out at walking pace and push - we made it. Thanks for prodding the memory banks. By the way I was 15.

I'm already planning in my head how I would do this in a day or make multiple walks. When I return, clearly this trip would concentrate my energies in Yorkshire. From a New Yorker's POV, London is nice, but it looks too much like home. I wonder what people in the Robinhood Bay do there for a living if they're not fishing or selling items for tourists. I would love to be a postal carrier just so I could walk around all day delivering mail and taking in the sights of the area on the daily. I don't care about the weather. OMG!!! how awesome would that be!??!

Sometimes there comes the odd day - and its usually a hard one - when one is pleased to get home, draw in the curtains to shut out the dark, light up the candles ( it`s December `22 here in Yorkshire, just as it is in any other part of the world ) and take a cathartic walk around Robin Hood`s Bay. Oh - and look foreward to Spring. Not long now ( two days ) before the sun begins to rise again here in England.
