When I was young in UK I was also the mum of 4 small kids, so getting involved into history was a bit off the radar. I did discover North Wales during that time developed a passion for ancient history but it's really only now in my very old age(84) that I have the time to investigate & find the connecting links everywhere - so thank you KZbin & this channel for the help in expanding my knowledge ! I visited this beautiful place 10 yrs ago on a trip to the UK. The weather was worse than this, the rain barely let up. We had lunch in a cosy pub. The weather did not detract from the quaint village. We were too late to get into the castle but did wander around the garden.

We were lucky to have a fortnight holiday on Lindisfarne last year, which miraculously coincided with a two week heatwave! Arriving by train (Berwick on Tweed) and taxi, and with a Tesco delivery that set us up for our stay. We walked our socks off each day, yes and it was lovely when the day trippers went home! Your videos brought back many happy memories. Thanks.

Two weeks on the island, wow what a base. Did you find it hard to get around the rest of Northumberland due to the tide? Or did you just stay on the island exclusively?
@Avril-Steward2 ай бұрын
@@MemorySeekers We stayed on the island, apart from taking the weekly bus to Berwick to buy some garden canvas chairs, as the fixed seating in the garden was in the hottest part. We were not spoilt for choices of walks, my husband’s only disappointed was not getting to see “Vera’s” house on the island.

Lovely to see a cool foggy morning; in the throes of hot, humid August here in CA, though not on fire in my corner of the state. I've learned to embrace the humidity. I have to say that Lindisfarne is the last place I expected the hand of Lutyens. Really interesting. I hope to see that Arts & Crafts interior some time. As always, a terrific tour of those windswept shores with their famous ruins. I love seeing the different kinds of stone, and how they are joined in a manner that has kept them standing for all these centuries. That parking fee does seem a bit steep for a patch of muddy ground. As a huge fan of The Last Kingdom, I'm very excited for next week. Cheers!

We had so many other castles to visit that week, we didn't want to overload ourselves or you guys! I think we still visit 5 castles with the interior shots during our week. So this one, this time was missed. We would love to go in them all, but at least we can go back and do it another time. ☺

Merci beaucoup pour le commentaire et pour avoir regardé notre chaîne. C'est un très petit village où vivent environ 150 personnes sur l'île. I am a Northumbrian and made a comment in one of the other videos. I said that the weather is not always a nice sunny day I remember most of the time it was overcast with occasional rain. My first memory of this lovely little island was when I was about seven with my parents and two brothers. It has become more commercial now than it was sixty years ago but always worth a first visit and spend a full day on the island. It always amazes me that in the UK you have to pay to park everywhere you go and that nothing is free. I have lived in Spain for nineteen years and except for the middle of a city, just about everywhere in Spain is free parking. Another good video cheers.
@MemorySeekers2 ай бұрын
Hello, thank you for commenting again and sharing your memories of a first visit. I don't mind paying for parking if I feel I am getting something for it. Example clean toilets to use if need be. But to put a minimum of £6.50 and 3 hours is just money grabbing for what was a field in essence. Over the course of that day we stopped 3 times at £6.50 a go and the last place was just for 1 hours. It makes it very expensive and I think puts people off from stopping. Maybe that is what the council want? So glad you enjoyed watching.

He said if the tide is out it’s 11pm if the tide is in , what time do you want to leave ? I said why ? And he said the local policeman doesn’t have a boat 😂😂

We went to about 7 castles during that week, and so had to decide which ones we wanted to see, otherwise it would be castle overload. The National Trust wanted to charge a ridiculous amount to visit and we could not film inside, so all this was part of our decision.
