I’ve always loved this song. I still have my original cargo record bought back in 1983 when I was 13.

Same here. Always had a soft spot for their second album, even though they had a brilliant debut, and this song is one of the main reasons why.

This song is like a Hershey's Special Dark bar:lovely and bittersweet.I've heard that after Greg passed away,Colin was playing this in concert and dedicating it to Greg,with whom he was close friends for some 40 years.I can't think of a more touching way to pay tribute to a beautiful soul like Greg than with this gorgeous song.
@charlieranger45983 жыл бұрын
Hershey's Special Dark bar? What the...I had to google it. lol What a comparison! Except from your Greggy tribute story, which was actually very moving, I have to admit, that I always found myself, whenever I listened this song in a strange split state. A tear in one eye and the other eye laughing. Well..not laughing...smiling. :) Anyway, I love it, you know that! :-)

@@charlieranger4598 Yes,this song is like fine chocolate,semisweet and just sad enough for my tastes!Needless to say,I am quite fond of chocolate as well as of Men at Work!On the CD that I have of the US Festival set that they did,Greg introduces this song by saying:Here's a song from our new album.It's a tropical little number,fresh from the fruit box just for you:Le Bleu Pour Vous!"I'm not sure why he gave the title in French,but I thought it was cute.I thought they also did a really nice job with it in Berkeley.
@charlieranger45983 жыл бұрын
@@starletohara1631 Hahaha, our Greggy has always been a funny guy. "fresh from the fruit box" xD And ok, the french line...I noticed that many very differently singer, musicians etc. quite often use French..je ne sais pourquoi! :) Or they sing a part of their song in French. For example The Beatles' "Michelle" (Ce sont les mots, qui vont très bien ensemble..) and so on. But ok, Greg is unpredictable. 😂 We will see, what Colin is going to tell us tomorrow...(Tuesday) about "Blue For You". I wonder which songs are still to come, because it seems as if he intends to perform "only" 20 songs...That can't be enough for all songs together from the first 3 albums, can it? :-(
@starletohara16313 жыл бұрын
@@charlieranger4598 Bien sur,monsieur!So,that does seem strange;the three albums combined would have thirty songs,and he has already done "The Longest Night,"which wasn't on an album.I really hope he will do them all;maybe if his fans make enough noise,he will!After all,when the audience in Hamburg made enough noise after their set,MAW came back out and did two more songs!We will just have to write up a petition and get everybody to sign it,lol.Twenty songs is not enough!

@@starletohara1631 Chère Madame Frost, c'est terrible! :) I'm afraid, that Colin won't perform all the songs from Business, Cargo and 2 Hearts! Don't know, why I am only now aware of this. After all the song today has been 10/20. That's horrible! And another question I am wondering for weeks: Does he (Colin) even read the chat?!?! I mean, did he ever cast a single glance? Do we know that? (Colin, I hope, if you are reading this, you don't get it wrong. We all know, that you are a musician and in my imagination you are sitting the whole day long with your guitar and writing songs, practising and so on) 😂 But honestly, do we know that? I hope his wife does....I mean reading the chat here from time to time. (Please Mrs. Hay, be so kind and tell your husband, that we, the fans, would be terribly sad and shattered, if we would not get ALL THE SONGS from the 3 Men at Work albums!!! Wise men say, that you can best reach the ears from the songwriter through the heart of his wife...or was it the heart of the husband through the ears of his wife??? We are desperate. Please help us!) Shaun, I think, we should wirte this petition. Mon Dieu! Hmm...what do you think? Does Colin Hay, aka my hero, read from time to time the chat here? And then...what must he think of our spam here? lol - We are doomed!

Love it. If I close my eyes, I'm in the sand with my girlfriend of the time, in North Myrtle Beach S.C. , just holding each other and watching the seagulls fly, and the waves tumble in. Oh the memories of the laughter, the carefree teenage love. Not a care in the world, with no bills to pay, holding hands, and walking along the coast in the sand, with our next adventure the biggest issue we faced. It's wonderful to go back, even if it was only for a moment, to a time when that song was brand new. Thanks Colin and band, for a brief trip back several decades. Love you guys, and keep them coming.

No one can play this song right on drums.. I love this song. I learned every single Instrument that men at work used in there band except sax. I tried it and my lips could not handle it. But I can play every song of Men At Work s note for note on Drums the way Jerry played it.

I would imagine this drummer is under instruction from Colin to play it like this. It's slightly faster than the record and stylistically has more of an L.A studio guy reggae approach. He sounds like a great drummer but he deffinately does not evoke the feel or sound of Jerry Speiser. Jerry Speiser had a really unique sound and I think was always trying 100% to play his parts correctly and that gave the music an edge. He was a true band drummer. I would bet this drummer can play Jazz, Funk, Latin music to a high level and the problem is that, when drummers like that play music such as this, it sounds too easy for them. It is almost effortless and unfortunately that smooths out the edges in the music, which are part of the aesthetic of the original recording. I think this still sounds really good, but it's not going to have the magic of the original combo. I would imagine Colin wants the music performed in this way.
