In hilly races like this, a bunch sprint definitely doesn't occur in any style. No in MTB, not in CX, not on the road.

xc racers are not mtb racers, which the latter are more extreme, these are roadies, looking at them trying to descend is .. I rest my case.

I'm not an XC-rider, just hobby trail-rider, so forgive the possibly stupid question - at 4:30, why in the world does he have his seat that high on a descent? It looks like he has a dropper, so why isn't it down?

XC tracks are a lot up then down tracks, so you often don't take the time to lower your seat for only a few seconds of descent

Back in the dark ages, there were no dropper seat posts. We had to descend with seats in the regular riding position; it can be done. Surprising, I know.
