I like the implication that women back in the day didn't also... write down recipes. They just memorized them all. He's never seen a recipe card. Never heard of a cookbook. Modern women invented reading a recipe. The olden times women had supercomputer level photographic memories and did not know what books were. How far we've fallen.

also like???? I don't think.. he realizes.. that we have a VASTLY LARGER amount of ingredients available to us today for recipes than anyone 100 years ago ever would have. There's only so many things you can make from the handful of vegetables and livestock you're able to raise in your specific corner of the world during a specific season vs. what people could make today with access to ingredients from nearly any part of the globe in any season. People have access to more recipes than ever before in human history. I have ingredients from the other side of the world sitting in my cabinet right now. I'm sure my great grandma did the best that she could with what she had and I love the creativity of people with limited resources but at the end of the day I probably know more recipes in total than she did. If we're not going to bother questioning why that's a determining factor in whether someone's "good enough" for this guy that probably knows maybe 1 himself.

When I was 42, a man I had started dating(55) said this to me repeatedly. After a while I was so fed up, I told him to prove it. I knew he wasn’t going to, he just used it against me. A week later he had a “friend” contact me to say he had attempted suicide and he was in the hospital. I asked for details and the hospital name to confirm and they kept side stepping the question. That first man used the word "helpmeet" in his rant. That word is a conservative Christian fundamentalist term (which is literally *the worst* brand of Christianity, and I was raised in it). If anyone, especially a man, uses the term "helpmeet" unironically, RUN. Edit: To provide more context, "helpmeet" is particularly from Genesis (in the KJV Bible) where God says that Eve/woman is created to be Adam's/man's "help meet for him" (or "helper fit for him" is what more modern translations say). It's a specific belief that God created women to be subservient to men (and bear children), and that's it. So yeah, if you hear that word, *RUN.* 2nd edit: So I've since been informed by @FinneasJedidiah that the term "helpmeet" isn't exclusively fundamentalist, so my mistake and thanks, dude.

It's not *only* a fundamentalist Christian term, but I think they're definitely the ones who use it the most. I would definitely agree that it's a red flag tho

I find it SO concerning our society has let men get to this point. Even though it also hurts men to be like this. And while I def agree terms like abusive or toxic can get MASSIVELY overused these days (since you can be harmed without being abused by someone), there are far too many dudes who actively are toxic and abusive and think that's okay. And THAT is terrifying.

Which is confusing because A) he only had one wife (he certainly spread himself around othr ladies though, and had the kids to show for it), B) his wife certainly did cheat on him, and had a child as a result of it, whom he adopted as his own - I guess he couldn't really complain because he obviously had his own affairs, and C) WTF does Bob Marley have to do with it?!
