XCOM Files has my favourite version of zombies in anything I've ever seen.

@@octopusexperiment1931 The creator did a Bbig update on zombie AI a while back for XCOM Files, which makes them way more aggressive. They really do charge all at once across the entire map like you'd expect zombies to, which makes the zombie hunt missions both much more fun and much more challenging. Previously (like when Lewis and Ben played it) they kind of milled around on "animalistic" AI, only charging if you got too close, making the zombie infestations really drawn-out duck hunts. Things like shotguns, machine guns, and all the kinds of heavy weaponry you'd expect to need to cut down zombies fast are a lot more important now. But moreover I was referring to their lore. The first ones you meet are slow and mindless, with no capacity to use anything or to even spread the infection, which seems like a total non-threat. Then you find out that they're humans implanted with alien viruses, and that over time some of them start to gather body mass from eating things, including their fellow zombies. Turns out the alien parasite is basically in its "infant" form at that point, so the reason the initial zombies are slow and stumbling is because the parasites have all the thinking and coordination of a (very violent) toddler. The ones that build up body mass eventually burn it off, turning into zombie infectors, which are much, MUCH faster than regular zombies, but crucially can 'lay' their own parasite eggs in humans they kill, infecting them into more zombies. It gets worse though, because they start becoming more intelligent, learning to use tools, weapons, guns; some even developing psionic powers and the ability to 'feed' and control lesser zombies. The best part, IMO, is the reveal that vampires exist, but they're zombies that who's parasite has grown large enough to puncture two tendrils through the roof of its host body's mouth to feed directly on things rather than relying on the body to inefficiently process it, creating the appearance of vampire fangs. Sorry, I just. REALLY like the XCOM Files take on zombies.

"Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" really has been the defining motto of Lewis & Ben's illustrious(?) Xcom careers. Yet it really says a lot how in spite of all that and much, **much** more, they somehow end up winning overall anyway. ...I'm not sure what it says, or about what exactly, but definitely something!
