Honestly it is a shame that Xcom has such a hit or miss history. Think about how much more Lewis and Ben we could've seen if the games were ALL bangers!

I remember this game was way too complicated from me when I was like 12. I had gone through terror from the deep feeling confident, and was just baffled. I'd like to see them try and remake this now with current technology.

or just for the openxcom people to have a swing at it. Most of the problems with it were due to bad UI design.

i think there is an openapoc that isnt terrible. but they basically had to remake 80% of the game because it wasnt complete@@korenn9381

Honestly, this game had MASSIVE potential. Overseeing a mega city was far more personal then the Geoscape from previous games. Seeing all the factions go about their business and managing them during a invasion from another dimension is honestly super cool. If it had the time and resources it needed, I can honestly say this is my favourite of the series.

I loved Apocalypse, my uncle was the one who owned the X-Com games (all except Enforcer! Interceptor was neat though I only watched my uncle play it) when I was a kid so I only got to play them over the summer, and Apocalypse was just fascinating. It has so many interesting ideas but it's really held back by having been shoved out the door six months early. It sounds like OpenApoc is slowly making progress, that'll be great. Having a stable basis to make mods and fixes will hopefully breathe new life into the game.

@@iamcatlegend It is being developed, yes. The work is not too quick, but it does progress and become better.

I tried to pass through this game SO many times. It's somehow both disturbing with strange mechanics and difficulty, and kind of... Interesting as well, by the same reason.

Thanks for this look at Apocalypse! Such a very ambitious game held back by development and publisher limitations. For new videos, are there any more single big battles like the assault on Dagon HQ? Those were really great and epic.

Most people play realtime and hate this game. This game is a TURN BASED masterpiece. Its like the previous games but with 8 levels and destructible terrain. Getting tired of clearing out a building? blow out the columns and watch it fall. Sad to see people not give it a chance. REALTIME is bad. The critiques I hear are from not learning the game. Maybe We will get a good play through is OpenApoc takes off, but looking at the code base decisions and community behind it... that's doubtful.

"Maybe we can make the bridge fall down on them." You actually *can* do that if you cause enough damage in the right places. "It hasn't aged as well, has it?" "Real-time is pretty bad." Call me weird if you want, but Apocalypse (played in real-time) is my favorite X-Com game. What's wrong with real-time combat in Apocalypse? It seems fine to me. Hell, I finished the game a few times over the years and the only big issue I remember is the uselessness of ground vehicles (they often get instantly destroyed when the 1st hit from UFOs hits the road under them >:( ). "There's, like, 5 buildings [in the alien dimension]". "I think it's 9." Actually, there's 10 of them. "The dogfighting was fu**ing garbage! [X-Com: Interceptor] is just the worst." Why do you hate the game so much? Am I the only one who *likes* that one? How is it "no improvement over X-Wing"? You have a randomly generated galaxy, space exploration, base building, research, different weapons and equipment for your craft, finding and destroying alien mining operations to slow them down, etc. Do you even remember what X-Wing was like? You literally had 1 of 3 unmodifiable ships forced on you for each pre-made mission (with an expansion adding a 4th)! Also, if you dogfight just by going full throttle, turning around and shooting at the enemies - you're playing it wrong. You can change how much engine power goes into your weapons, shields or thrusters - and you'll *have* to master that (and properly adjust your ship's speed during combat) if you want to beat the game on any difficulty above Beginner. "[X-Com: Enforcer] looks so terrible, I didn't want to play it." As someone who *did* play it, let me just say: it plays *worse* than it looks. It's *that* bad. :( "[The Buerau: XCOM Declassified] is a sh** Mass Effect. And it sucked." Personally, I don't think it was a bad game. I finished it and throught it was okay. It's definitely a terrible (and disappointing) X-Com game, tho - and I absolutely understand why you don't even consider it an X-Com game. If they didn't decide to scrap the research and a lot of other stuff they planned during development, we might've had an interesting 3rd-person X-Com game. But that's *not* what we got. We got a generic 3rd-person shooter trying to copy Mass Effect's combat that's vaguely connected to X-Com. If anyone decides to try Apocalypse, I'd encourage raiding Cult of Sirius - which was suggested in the video a few times, but never done. They were my main source of income during my Superhuman playthrough. >.> You can also raid buildings owned by criminal gangs like Psyche, Diablo, etc. and sell all the Psiclone you get from them - tho I personally prefer to just raid Cult of Sirius, as they're always hostile toward X-Com. (EDIT) I just realized... did Yogscast claim Apocalypse aged worse than UFO Defense because they played OpenXcom version of UD and original DOS version of Apocalypse? -_-
