CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Racist Pappy (Hal Holbrook) orders Chief Sunday (Robert De Niro) not to bring Carl (Cuba Gooding Jr.) back up from his diving test until he stops moving.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This military drama is based on the true story of Carl Brashear, who was the first African-American to serve as a diver in the United States Navy. Brashear (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) was born to a poor farming family in the deep South, and joined the Navy in hopes of bettering himself. When Brashear applies for diving school, he first encounters Master Chief Billy Sunday (Robert De Niro), a gruff and tyrannical diving instructor who holds absolute sway over his charges. Sunday does little at first to encourage Brashear's ambitions, and the would-be diver discovers racism in the military is an ugly fact of life when his white comrades refuse to share barracks with him. But Brashear's courage and determination make an impression on Sunday, and the two men become allies as Brashear must fight prejudice, military bureaucracy, and even a crippling injury in order to realize his dreams. Originally announced under the title Navy Diver, Men of Honor also features Hal Holbrook, David Keith, Michael Rapaport, Charlize Theron, and Powers Boothe; Bill Cosby served as an executive producer for the project.

@@AnimeBlaque I’ll try but I’ve never done that… I’m on KZbin a lot that I’ve never posted anything… I just made comments… I looked further into it and it said they never refused to live in the barracks with him either. I’m not trying to minimize it… I’m sure he went through every day situations that I could never appreciate. He had the double whammy… He was black and handicapped to a certain extent (leg). The comments I read was actually from someone who saw his medical records. It’s a four or five minute real life documentary posted on KZbin.

Could not agree more, just watch it again having seen a few times and being ex military back in the 1970s who came across crusty SOBs as Robert De Niro played such as a very tough Scottish RAF SWO who took a dislike to me, I could truly believe in the character he played. Only thing his accent and manner was so accurate I and I expect many others we could not understand most of the things he was saying in the film which - would have been so much better if we could have had.

Rather interesting that Sunday's disrespect for authority is so calm and cool at this moment when he was so fiery about it in other scenes.

It's great to be able to watch clips of good movies but "movie clips" is the worst for cutting off the end of clips. Some of which make the entire clip worth watching. You can't cut the emotional climax that the whole clip leads to! Poor!

I collect movie memorabilia, and own the spanner tool Cuba Gooding Jr used in the assembly of the piping in this movie. Really fun to look at during the movie - and one of my favorite pieces!
