You're not understanding why they actually did it. They removed the dislike count so people couldn't understand that they weren't alone in disliking something. They want you to think that if you dislike something, you are completely alone in thinking so. The point is demoralization, to make you think any resistance is hopeless. That is the point of removing the dislike count, not protecting anyone.

Also: it's a good reminder to recall 90s rule of "there are no women on the internet" Some activists claim it was sexist ... and to be honest it was kind of proving pre-existing (back then!) misandry on the internet. Being a woman in a place with immense access was a privilege even back then and it was not uncommon for even online gaming to have their idolized female players in a guild. Heck: back then (rare as they were, and they were RARE) gamer girls were actually often really cool people. Often with their of social anxiety problems and rather introvert personality... it is hard to notice when shift did happen but once it did suddenly 'gamer girl population' skyrocketed into something akin to x20 of what it was before >_>. The rule itself was established due to those reasons and fact that it was veeeery hard to tell someones identity in early internet or to prove a lie. Many people used it claiming to be a women to rack obvious benefits and summon white knights to their side - it was everywhere even when I was but a kid. So just to be on the safe side and not get scammed (which was 10 to 1 times the case) early internet did establish "there are no girls on the internet' rule. Ironically: girls back then were A-OK with it. Not due to them receiving any harassment but rather since (like I said) most of them were pretty cool people and it was actually rather vexing to suddenly 'receive special treatment' only due to what was between your legs, especially if IRL you were the silent mice ignored by the crowd. The difference was just... kinda cringe, or so was the thought of the day. In fact flaunting you 'Imma Girl' special right was seen as both obnoxious and weak - by other girls. It is sad how the times had changed. Then again we have some cool things: like indie comics sphere, more physically available manga due to internet sites popularity and recently V-Tubers. So it's not all doom and gloom. PS: V-tuber girls often remind me of the gamer girls of the old. Especially the more socially reserved, awkward or somewhat 'weird' ones that hold otherwise scorned passions (Melody talking about hentai?), the personality is there and maybe an in-character play helps as much as old times anonymity. Mind you: the 'not best at game but learning and enjoying" part is also part of it. Statistics speak volume in here as gamer girls were tiny minority of internet before and even for men maybe 1 in a 100 was to be considered really 'good' at games. So finding a girl who was a 'pro' waslike looking for a holy grail. That being said we are speaking still about players who were willing to learn and often 100% the game with enough time, trial and error - often getting frustrated, often going on hiatus but not being a GODDAMN GAMING URINALIST who cannot finish tutorial. The 'omega pro m4d sk1ll2' gaming girl play we've seen few times is also very cringe to me. It's obvious play pretend pretty darn 100% of times. Why? Well for instance even for men we're talking about goddamn 0.0001% who can claim such things unironically and mostly in very small window of games they specialize in! Same time most og girls I've met who actually are well above average (mind you: not some pro tourney levels but hold 4.0+ kdr like it was nothing) are actually pretty humble and play game for sheer enjoyment of it. We've seen it V-Tuber community as well as some of those girls are actually well above average in respective games... but I don't see them flaunting that? If anything: other people mention that. They just enjoy the games they like particularly and seem competent in them. Sometimes it is actually big surprise that they are good as they pretty much trash themselves about it :/ Ah..... sorry I went into a big rant XD TL:DR "there are no women/girls on the internet" was a good and meaningful rule

I dont get why people even care who the author is. The only time I bothered to look who wrote the book that im reading is if I want to look for more works from them. Even then their name is all I need and will be forgotten as soon as I typed it.

I don't like Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer was written by a woman? OH NO! I'm sexist. Time to go binge a bunch of stuff I don't like before others find out. But in all seriousness, I'm looking forward to Blade Devil.

reminds me an episode of family guy when brian meets another dog who also talks and writes books which are actually quite popular. brian pretends to have read the books and that they changed his life. the books were about how brian is an Ahole, how the author actually wants to castrate him and how he will try to convince brian to do it himself. brian who havent read any of the actual books gets convinced that the books are about how dogs get a nirvana stage after castration and he willingly goes to a castration till stewie saves him since stewie actually read the books.

This makes me wish Anton LaVey had written Harry Potter as Rowling and that Rowling never existed, then later after selling his 500 million books, claimed that he was, in fact, trying to covertly recruit children into the Golden Dawn.

Satanist LaVey? Oh no, I get shudders to think what the books would be like. Voldemort would probably be sympathetic bad guy, using his personal freedom to triumph over Death. Harry probably replaces Voldy in the end as the Dark Lord in search of gnosis. Hermione probably kills her first-born child to power up her own magic or becomes bride to the dark powers or what-not. Umbridge becomes love interest.
