I wasn't aware it was a Shodokan international.. both Shihans were present but I don't ever remember it being billed as Shodokan

I don't ge it. Isn't Aikido about using the attackers movement? So how can two aikido fightersn "fight"?

@cagragui The closest is Josh Ramey, Mansfield Ohio, USA. He's 6'1, and about 190 in this. Fastest and lightest I've seen him in 8 years, and I'm (or was) his primary training partner for years.

I suppose the title doesn't mean anything. Shodokan Aikido is Tomiki Aikido. This is the kind of randori they do. Read up on a little first.

If a martial art pressure tests its work no matter what way, it deserves respect. Yes, it looks like they are using a dildo, but if it helps the grappler practice with a resisting opponent... it might translate into a real situation even more. It's better than spending an hour dance fighting thinking you are actually equipped. Any resistance testing is better than none.

sorry, but what is the point that i'm SEVERELY missing?
@ieanfreestyle11 жыл бұрын
to me coz i can't do that, i know for the real fight that very difficult to use aikido...
@aikidoisthebombyeah12 жыл бұрын
let me get this straight so I don't SEVERELY MISS anything else... a whole tournament was invented to get the ATTACKER TO COMMIT TO AN ATTACK? is that right? So this tournament is not to display or prove or compare the skills of the defender, correct? But rather, to get the attacker to COMMIT TO ATTACK? So why do you have to have a DILDO in your hand in order to commit to an attack? And why does the attacker have to commit to anything? He is not allowed to feint his attacks? Why not?
@aikidoisthebombyeah12 жыл бұрын
well what is the point of these tournaments?

CLEARLY it has been demonstrated that anyone practicing Shodokan Aikido would never be able to defend themselves against someone with a knife... if they can't even defend themselves against a dildo, how can they defend themselves against a real knife? So what about just a regular grappling tournament where UKE tries to joint lock you, and you try to joint lock UKE? Doesn't that seem more beneficial to training? "this is not knife defense and was never intended to be" are your words...

No, this is nothing like any form of Aikido. It makes very little sense at all to me, I don't understand quite what it is they are doing. If "this is not knife defense and was never intended to be" then why do they use a rubber knife? It doesn't seem to matter if they get struck or cut by it. Confused!!!!!!

Who are you aiming that comment at?
@aikidoisthebombyeah12 жыл бұрын
this is a complete WASTE OF TIME... a tournament where the purpose of the defender is to GRAPPLE with an opponent that is attacking with a KNIFE... this type of shit will get you killed on the street... if you want to learn how to defend yourself against a knife, better to learn something like filipino kali or escrima...

I very much liked Tomiki aikido and its principles while I was involved with it from 1975 - 1993 with the BAA, but they should do away with this stupid tanto randori and stick to toshu randori or randori kyogi as I knew it... Yes its "sport" I know, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's totally ridiculous!! IF they ever want it to get to Olympic level as its cousin judo has, then they have to drop this nonsense and improve on the toshu randori!! Sorry, but having come from different MA before I did this style of aikido it's just so illogical and bloody dangerous from a self-defence pov!! This is the only thing that takes away from what is a really good system.... But there you go!! It has to change from the top downwards... Otherwise? Change, or it will diminish in the west...
